Socialite Zsa Zsa Gabor will have three-quarters of her right leg amputated today, her publicist John Blanchette tells RadarOnline.com exclusively.

Doctors at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center decided on the procedure after an MRI revealed the infection had gone into the bone.

Blanchette told RadarOnline.com the surgery will take place Friday at 11 am PT and should be completed within the hour.

In a heartbreaking turn of events, doctors treating her at a Los Angeles hospital decided on the procedure after an MRI revealed an infection in her leg had spread into the bone.

“I talked with the doctors about whether or not to tell Zsa Zsa about the amputation,” a devastated Prince Frederic told RadarOnline.com, in an exclusive interview.

“We decided that the news would probably send her into shock, putting her more at risk for surgery.

Doctors Monday were waiting on the condition of ailing Zsa Zsa Gabor, who might have to have a portion of her right leg amputated if she does not respond to her latest treatments for ongoing blood clots, RadarOnline.com has learned.

The 93-year-old socialite was taken to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center Sunday evening, where doctors detected a growing lesion, according to her publicist, John Blanchette. He added that the amputation might be necessary, or else Gabor could die from gangrene.

"She developed a lesion on the leg that had swollen a while back and caused her to go to the hospital for treatment, but it has not responded,” Blanchette told People. “In fact, it has increased in size, and the doctors have wanted to operate for several days."
