Authorities in Chicago have released a tape showing the police interrogation of William Balfour, the man convicted of murdering three members of Jennifer Hudson's family, follow his arrest October 24, 2008, the same day the crimes occurred.

The jury watched the tape of Balfour's interrogation prior to finding him guilty on three counts of first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping and home invasion in the deaths of Jennifer's and Julia's mother Darnell Hudson Donerson, 57; brother Jason Hudson, 29; and Julia's son Julian King, 7.

Julian was still missing at the time of the inquisition, though his body would be recovered three days later in Jason Hudson’s abandoned SUV on Chicago’s West Side.

After two weeks of harrowing and often shocking testimony, the defense rested their case Tuesday in the triple murder trial of William Balfour, the man accused of killing Jennifer Hudson’s family.

Jennifer Hudson wiped tears from her eyes in court Thursday as she watched Kent Williams tell the jury that hearing his best friend had died was "the worst thing I heard to this day, actually my whole life," according to ABC News.

Williams said he found out about the murders on his way back from work during the afternoon of October 24, 2008, and he recalled the moment to the Chicago courtroom.

Illinois State Police forensic scientist Pauline Gordon said she tested the .45-caliber pistol and found a limited amount of DNA belonging to a male, but admitted that it excluded William Balfour, according to the Detroit Free Press.
