Ex-Rutgers University student Dharun Ravi was sentenced to 30 days behind bars Monday, in connection with his March conviction on 15 criminal charges linked to live streaming his former roommate Tyler Clementi's sexual encounters, leading to the 18-year-old's September 2010 suicide.

Ravi, 20, appeared before Judge Glenn Berman in a New Jersey courtroom on Monday morning to hear his fate, which was far more lenient than the 10 year sentence that he could have received.

The former Rutgers student convicted on charges of spying and bullying his gay roommate and driving him to suicide claims that it was not his fault that Tyler Clementi jumped off New York’s George Washington Bridge.

“Even though I wasn’t the one who caused him to jump off the bridge, I did do things wrong and I was stupid about a lot of stuff,” Dharun Ravi, 20, revealed in an interview with ABC’s 20/20.

The former Rutgers student convicted on charges of spying and bullying his gay roommate and driving him to suicide claims that it was not his fault that Tyler Clementi jumped off New York’s George Washington Bridge.

It took a jury two days of deliberations to reach a guilty verdict on Friday in the trial of the former Rutgers student accused of spying and bullying his gay roommate, Tyler Clementi, who later killed himself.

As RadarOnline.com previously reported, the 20-year-old Dharun Ravi was accused of live streaming his roommate Clementi's sexual encounters, which led to his suicide at age 18.
