Kelly Clarkson Blasts Taylor Swift's Record Label Over Grammy Performance Defense

While Taylor Swift celebrates her four Grammy awards in Australia, where she is currently on tour, her critics have wasted no time in attacking her off-key performance with Stevie Nicks during Sunday's show.

On Thursday, Swift’s label head, Big Machine CEO Scott Borchetta, defended her as the “voice of a generation” saying, “This is not American Idol. This is not a competition of getting up and seeing who can sing the highest note. This is about a true artist and writer and communicator. It’s not about that technically perfect performance.”
52nd Annual Grammy Awards Were Smash Hit - Highest Ratings In Six years
Fast forward to one of Taylor’s admirers, and Idol season one winner Kelly Clarkson, who posted the following open letter on her blog I Am Kelly. In it, she slams the label head for his dismissive comments.

Wow... Dear Scott Borchetta,
I understand defending your artist obviously because I have done the same in the past for artists I like, including Taylor, so you might see why its upsetting to read you attacking American Idol for producing simply vocalists that hit ‘the high notes’. Thank you for that ‘Captain Obvious’ sense of humor because you know what, we not only hit the high notes, you forgot to mention we generally hit the ‘right’ notes as well. Every artist has a bad performance or two and that is understandable, but throwing blame will not make the situation at hand any better. I have been criticized left and right for having shaky performances before (and they were shaky) and what my manager or label executives say to me and the public is “I’ll kick butt next time” or “every performance isn’t going to be perfect” ……I bring this up because you should take a lesson from these people and instead of lashing out at other artists (that in your ‘humble’ opinion lack true artistry), you should simply take a breath and realize that sometimes things won’t go according to plan or work out and that’s okay.
Sincerely,
One of those contestants from American Idol who only made it because of her high notes ;)
Stevie Nicks' Gypsy-Woman Style Hits High-End Ready To Wear In Fall 09!

Fleetwood Mac frontwoman Stevie Nicks is just as famous for her ethereal style as her iconic voice and her look is hitting stores this fall. Margi Kent, the fashion visionary behind Nicks' look, is launching her own high-end ready to wear collection. Nicks’ one-of-a-kind look-- with lots of lace, chiffon, granny boots, velvet jackets and ruffles—kicked off the bohemian chic trend when Fleetwood Mac hit the scene in the mid 1970s. That is before boho fashioned starlets like Mary-Kate Olsen and Nicole Richie were even born.
Since 1977 when Stevie first joined the musical forces of Fleetwood Mac, Margi cultivated the songstress' unique style. Nicks' must-have accessory remains, to this day, the oversized shawl, which she says is a “great prop.”
The stylist and designer tells RadarOnline.com that Stevie's look is, "powerful and ethereal." Kent's line is very reminiscent of the looks Stevie pulls off on the red carpet and on stage! In addition to styling Stevie, Kent has worked with Meryl Streep, Demi Moore, Mariah Carey, and Kim Cattrall. (Continue)

While currently on the road with Fleetwood Mac for Unleashed: The Hits tour—where she enchants with that unmatchable raspy voice, five costume changes and some serious sexual tension with Lindsay Buckingham—Stevie releases this live album, recorded at her October 2007 'Soundstage' performance, featuring just ten tracks, including an orchestral version of “Landslide” and a cover of Dave Matthews’s 1996 mega-hit “Crash.”
