We wouldn’t expect the flamboyant singer to wear just any old headphones. True to form, the Pop star designed her own audio jewels with Dr. Dre’s Diddybeats, to create headphones called “Heartbeats” that look as good as they sound.

Diddybeats By Diddy Review

Designed to look like jewels, the Lady says they celebrate the “art and lifestyle of music.”

“In the deepest hour of the night, I confess to myself three things; I would die if I was forbidden to write, forbidden to love, or forbidden to fashion,” Lady Gaga said. “Heartbeats embody the trinity of my human being, with one additional vow: that sound matters. Wear Heartbeats, love each other, and celebrate the art and lifestyle of music.”

The Heartbeats headphones come in three designs (chrome, all black and jewel-shape earpiece), but we like the brilliant red.

Though the audio is the most important factor for us in choosing headphones, we knew that since they were made by Dr. Dre and Monster they would be high-fidelity.  The large-efficency drivers can play loud without any distortion, and the highs come in as clearly as the bass lows. Like all the Diddybeats, there is a  ControlTalk for on-cable iPod and iPhone playback control and a built-in mic for iPhone/music phone hands-free calling. And the innovative flat cable doesn’t tangle .

Now you can hear “Poker Face” exactly the way Lady Gaga intended.

Check them out here.

Diddybeats: By "Diddy"

Produced with Monster, who brought us the sonic pleasure known as “Beats” headphones by Dr. Dre, the Diddybeats by Sean “Diddy” Combs, are the latest addition to the music family.

Combs, who knows a little about music, has incorporated the most advanced technology to bring an amazing level of audio sophistication to his ear buds. Play one of your favorite tunes on your old ear buds and then switch to the Diddybeats. That’s all it takes. With club-worthy bass, crystal-clear highs and lows, these high performance earbuds will make you a convert.

Dr Dre, who worked in conjunction with Diddy (and Lady Gaga for her production) says: “Artists and producers work hard in the studio perfecting their sound. But people can’t really hear it with normal headphones… With Beats, people are going to hear what the artists hear, and listen to the music the way they should: the way I do.”

As with the designer himself, Sean John the Diddybeats look as good as they sound. With the high-tech aluminum casing and the smart flat cable design (so they don’t tangle) these sport a sophisticated look to match the sound.

The brand –new ones are being made available with Monster’s “ControlTalk”  headphone cable, which can be used with iPhone and iPod for music playback control as well as to take hands- free calls .

At $149, these aren’t cheap but they’re worth every cent. Available at all Best Buys and Diddybeats.

Dead Weather: Lightning!

Jack White’s other, other band—the pecking order goes The White Stripes, The Raconteurs and then Dead Weather—are back with their sophomore release, Sea Of Cowards. After their critically-acclaimed debut album, the gothic blues romp known as Horehound, and an electrifying live show the band didn’t waste any time on their return, just 10 months later.

Fronted by the KillsAlison Mosshart and featuring White on drums (and occasionally vocals) the band is a veritable supergroup of sorts that also includes bassist Jack Lawrence of The Raconteurs and guitarist Jack Fertita of Queens of the Stone Age.

This time around you can count on more down and dirty rock and roll, bluesy undertones, menacing guitar solos, dark organs, psychedelic synthesizers and lots of aggression in the form of Alison’s sultry howls and growls, but with the in-your-face intensity turned up even more.

Influenced by old blues records and Zeppelin, the album, like most of White’s work, features some great moments and some throwaways. And a lot of the songs kind of blur together. Yet, like everything White creates there’s an inexplicable force that just draws you in. Dead Weather is more about creating an explosive vibe than memorable songs, which really translates best live.

Sea Of Cowards is out today. Check them out the tour dates on their site, Dead Weather

DNP Yet Another Repository for Random Things

Don’t tell anyone we found this at PB Teen, but this Chalkboard Speaker not only hides your iPod speakers, but you can leave messages on the chalk board, “English HW!,”  “Call Jen,” or tell your little sister to stay away from your stuff. Unprintable. But at $180 we’re not rushing out to buy one. Though these other options can cost more, the audio quality is sooooo much better!  Check out Altec Lansing inMotion iM600 ($99 - $293),or Logitech Pure-Fi Dream ($148 - $199) or even the lower priced iHome iH9 (black), which offer superior audio sound. Then buy yourself a chalk board for 20 bucks. Hold on….that’s Modern Design calling us on the other line.
