While dark nails are perfect for your winter wardrobe, it is crucial to lighten up your look for spring and summer.  On our last visit to the nail salon we were drawn to OPI’s new Shrek Forever After Collection, as the color-popping bottles of polish definitely stood out in the sea of reds, pinks and blacks.  Though many polish lines make an attempt to perfect the pastel look, which is super popular this time of year, OPI flawlessly perfected the candy-coated color scheme, with this line inspired by the hit movie franchise.

To make a bold statement, we recommend Who the Shrek (think Sarah Jessica Parker’s Valentino Couture dress from the Sex and the City 2 Premiere) or Ogre-the-Top, a spunky blue. If you couldn’t stop wearing dark purple shades this winter, give Funky Donkey a spin, which is a super fun, perfectly purple hue.

As for the ladies in our office, we cannot get enough of Rumple’s Wiggin’, a pastel lilac, and What’s with the Cattitude, a sky blue color.  Both are easily wearable and add a blast of color to whatever we are wearing, without going over-the-top.

Shrek Forever After may be an animated film made with children in mind, but that hasn’t stopped its cast from getting gushy about the film and its implications.

“You get to see true love happen all over again for the first time, between Shrek and Fiona, because they get to find one another,” Cameron Diaz said of the film during a press event in Los Angeles. The actress voices Princess Fiona, while Mike Myers returns as the voice of Shrek. “It’s ... my favorite moment from the first [Shrek] movie, that you get to experience all over again, because you get to take the journey with them of finding that love again. You open up on the two of them in the routine of a life that they’ve taken for granted... and get to see [Shrek] journey back, trying to regain his true love and it’s a beautiful love story,” she said.

Movie Review : Shrek Forever After

In this fourth installment of the franchise, Shrek is getting antsy with his life, which now includes his wife and their three adorable baby ogres, living the suburban dream in a hut in the woods. When the mundanity gets to be too much to bear, he makes a deal with the movie’s evil stand-in for a devil to sow his wild oats for a day, and pays a hefty price.

Letters To Juliet

The movie’s pointed themes have the cast mulling over some of the life’s lessons far beyond the set, and discussing what they’re grateful for in their own lives. For Mike Myers, it’s privacy -- for the rest of us, it might as well be the Canadian native’s sense of humor. “It’s hard to be super full of yourself in Canada. If there was a motto of Canada, it would be ‘Who do ya think you are, eh?’” the actor quipped. “It’s very good training to being a person.”

Diaz took a broader view of gratitude, citing life itself as her greatest joy. “I think it’s pretty awesome,” she said. “I love my family and my friends, and that to me is the love of my life ... and the experiences I get to share with them.”

Celebs Attend “Shrek Forever After” Premiere in L.A.

Jon Hamm, meanwhile, got downright philosophical when he considered what messages Shrek Forever After might have for movie-going tots. “We live in a moment in time right now, where people have a lot of information about a lot of people instantly, but it’s all surface information, and it doesn’t really mean anything,” he said. The Mad Men star trades his character Don Draper’s office garb for that of an animated warrior-ogre named Brogan in the new film.

“And these things that [we in the cast have] been talking about, about what [we] love and hold dear and what [we] feel strongly about are things that are unquantifiable in their Twitter feed or Facebook page or... paparazzi photos," Hamm continued. "It’s truly getting to know people and getting an understanding of them and trusting them and being vulnerable... and that’s the journey that Shrek makes, is taking his existence for granted,” he continued. “That’s what I think really resonates.”

How To Train Your Dragon

Amid the pontification, it was Eddie Murphy -- who reprises his role as Donkey -- who was the most succinct. “Love is a mother-f--er,” he said. “Does anybody not love love?”

Shrek Forever After opens Friday, May 21. It’s rated PG.

Shrek Forever After

For the average American male, a mid-life crisis means a Ferrari. For Shrek (voiced by Mike Myers), a hulking green ogre with antennae, facing mid-life mundanity means getting back to roots, complete with terrorizing villagers, eschewing responsibility and playing in the mud.

In Shrek Forever After, the fourth and, ostensibly, final installment in the animated DreamWorks franchise, the titular character is back in what appears to be modern suburban bliss. He’s married to Princess Fiona (voiced by Cameron Diaz), father to three mini-ogres, and lives in a cute little hut in the woods that features a mud-jacuzzi and an ample outhouse. It’s quickly apparent that living the ogre dream is too boring to handle, and suddenly Shrek is making a deal with the resident devil (aka Rumpelstiltskin, voiced by Walt Dohrn), signing away his life in exchange for some youthful fun with the awkward strokes of a magic pen.

Movie Review: Letters To Juliet

If the impetus for action in the final Shrek seems far removed from what its intended audience might comprehend, the antics that ensue and ultimate message -- be grateful for what you have -- are pounded in hard enough for movie-goers of any age to understand. Daddy’s bored with his idyllic existence and needs to shun Mommy and misbehave for a while to feel like a masculine ogre again. Daddy’s immaturity is punished, though, when he loses everything he cares about, and must battle evil witches (whose gnarled visages and penchant for all-lady raves are truly disturbing) possibly to the death to get his boring existence back again. There are no trophy girlfriends, and Shrek sports a renaissance vest instead of a proverbial gray flannel suit, but the punishment is clear enough to communicate the point.

New DVD Reviews:

Despite Shrek’s identity issues and misguided decision, there’s enough lighthearted fun to balance out the unseemly conundrum. It takes a little while for Shrek Forever After to find its pace -- and its humor -- but once the heroic ogre heads for battle, there’s a surge of much-needed energy, as if suddenly everyone remembers how to crack jokes in a time of crisis. Some of the film’s best moments are the least dramatic. In Shrek’s new alternate world, Donkey (Eddie Murphy) is not yet his friend and Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) has grown fat and lazy, letting rats share his cream and Fiona stroke his fur (and his ego). His languid state allows for some adorable jokes that capitalize mainly on house cats and their shamelessness, while Donkey does his performative thing, with pop songs that cull chuckles of surprise out of context.

How To Train Your Dragon

From a visual standpoint, Shrek Forever After is similar to its previous editions, and demands an adjustment period to acclimate to its computer-generated images. There’s a  grotesqueness to the characters (even the good guys) that takes some getting used to, but the 3-D effects provide a good distraction. As the film’s energy warms up, so it seems the creatures’ faces do, too. Entertaining and mostly unsurprising, Shrek Forever After fulfills its mission. Its creative use of catchy, multi-generational hits and its stars’ unswerving talent keeps it lively enough to mostly make up for initial stalling. As a final chapter to the ogre-driven epic, the film -- at times both tepid and enjoyable -- is a fitting end to a series whose time has come to close the book and live happily ever.
