Robot mania is about to sweep America as Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen grossed an estimated $16 million in midnight shows – the second best ever after The Dark Knight.  Many analysts believe that the Megan Fox and Shia LaBoeuf pairing has been instrumental in drawing in these huge numbers.

“Look, this is the perfect summer popcorn movie which is aimed squarely at the teenage and early twenty set,” Hollywood.com movie analyst Paul Deragarabedien told RadarOnline.com. “Both Shia LaBoeuf and Megan Fox have huge followings with this particular demographic and with its all-action scenes, fast cars and robots, it’s a home run with these fans.”

Michael Bay’s high-octane blockbuster played in roughly 3,000 cinemas starting at 12.01am on Wednesday, June 24. "This looks like it could be one of the biggest Wednesday openers -- with a shot of being the biggest," Paramount vice chairman Rob Moore said, predicting a five-day haul in the $130 million-$150 million range. The five-day record for a Wednesday opener belongs to 2004's Spider-Man 2, which notched $152.4 million.

Reports had surfaced that Bay had hounded Paramount chiefs including studio head Brad Grey for not promoting the movie enough but the latest figures seem to show the campaign is spot on.

Deragarabedien added: “Look the promotion is working perfectly, so, whatever they are doing they are doing it right.”

The first Transformers movie took in $708 million worldwide and was the 13th highest grossing movie of all time.
