Scott Sippola, 31, and Allison Coss, 24, were convicted and sentenced to five years behind bars after the FBI launched a sting operation last year and it was discovered the duo was attempting to release incriminating photos unless Stamos paid them.

The extortionists contacted Stamos via email and demanded $680,000 from the actor in exchange for keeping the photos and information private.

An affidavit from an FBI agent said that Stamos, identified as "Mr. X", attended a party with Coss in 2004 during which photos were taken.

Stamos’ attorney claimed the photos never existed and no photos were ever found by FBI agents.

John Stamos released the following statement:

“I would like to thank the court, the FBI and the US Attorney’s office for their swift and efficient dealings in connection with this case.

"I am shocked and perplexed how individuals could fabricate so many false stories in an effort to defend a crime.  I agreed to be a witness for a federal criminal prosecution and endured countless false accusations about my behavior and appropriateness.  The allegations made regarding an inappropriate relationship are completely untrue.  These slanderous allegations to smear my reputation were part of their defense to redirect attention away from the federal crime of extortion.  There was no hot tub, no drugs, no nudity and nothing sexual in nature involved in my friendship with this woman.  They lied about everything from a pregnancy to compromising photos.

"I'm grateful these two criminals have been found guilty and I plan to go home to be with my family and friends and prepare to get back to work.”

Stamos and Coss had a fling in 2004 when she was only 17-years old while she was on spring break in Florida. The actor allegedly invited Coss and a female friend to his hotel room where he was photographed with hanging out with strippers and leaning over a table covered with cocaine. Stamos has said that he was “heartbroken” over his recent separation from his wife when the meeting with Coss occurred. The two continued an e-mail correspondence after the night in question.

However, things eventually went south when Scott Sippola, a 31-year old Michigan nightclub owner, tried to turn Coss and Stamos’ relationship into a moneymaking scheme. Stamos contacted the FBI after a man identified as “Mr. X” reached out to him asking for money to ensure Stamos’ reputation would not be tarnished by scandalous photos. A sting operation was set up and Sippola and Coss were arrested at a Michigan airport.

Coss and Sippola have pled not guilty to charges that they attempted to extort $680,000 from the actor in exchange for not releasing the photos of him .

The man accused of extorting actor John Stamos for $680,000 owned a nightclub that recently shut its doors, offering a possible clue about financial problems that led to Scott Sippola's arrest by the FBI, RadarOnline.com has learned exclusively.

EXCLUSIVE: Man Arrested For Extortion Lived With Woman Who Slept With Letterman

Sippola, 30, and Allison Coss, 23, were arrested by the FBI after demanding a payoff in exchange for not releasing what they claimed were damaging photos of Stamos, according to a criminal complaint first made public by The Smoking Gun.

RadarOnline.com has learned that Sippola is listed as the owner of Matrixx night club in Marquette, Michigan. Sippola is listed as the owner/manager of The Matrix, Inc. on the club's Web site. Two sources confirmed to RadarOnline.com that Matrixx was closed.

A source also confirmed to RadarOnline.com that Sippola and Coss are romantically involved.

An affidavit from an FBI agent said that Stamos, identified as "Mr. X", attended a party with Coss in 2004 during which photos were taken. Stamos stayed in email contact with Coss. Last month, Stamos received communication from a man threatening to damage the actor's reputation by releasing the photos unless the actor paid him $680,000.

A sting operation was set up by the FBI and Sippola and Coss were arrested at a Michigan airport.

Was Sippola’s nightclub going bankrupt and is that why he tried to extort Stamos? The closing of Matrixx would seem to point in that direction but one nearby business owner told RadarOnline.com that he believes Sippola has plenty of money and was going to reopen his club after remodeling it.

“He (Sippola) has a mortgage on the building and the other businesses pay rents to him that would more than likely cover the lease,” the nearby business owner told RadarOnline.com. “It seems like he has all the money in the world, why would he engage in illegal behavior to get more money?  It’s bizarre to me.  Some people are enchanted by celebrity and just interacting with them in any fashion may be what he was after.”

But RadarOnline.com has learned the club has been closed since Halloween and there are no notices on its websites that it will reopen. Various official web pages for the club are mostly out of date except for its MySpace page, which features a posting of an article detailing Sippola's arrest.
