Katie Couric's Last Night At CBS - May 19

Katie Couric is making a early exit from the CBS Evening News anchor desk.

Her last night will be May 19, the newswoman announced.

That's two weeks ahead of the June 4 expiration of her contract, but will allow the net to have a bumper between Couric's last show and Scott Pelley's first on June 6. Several CBS newscasters will fill in as substitute anchors in between.

Couric hasn't yet announced what she'll be doing next, but as RadarOnline.com has reported, she appears headed to a daytime talk show at ABC.

After success at both NBC and CBS, could Katie Couric's next stop be ABC?

Couric, according to reports, is on the verge of inking a $20 million pact with the network that would include a talk show, as well as a working relationship with their news division.

At the heart of the deal is a weekday talk show that would begin airing next year; under the new deal, she'd also get her own specials, as well as an occasional spot on 20/20.

It's official: Veteran journalist Scott Pelley will replace Katie Couric as the lead anchor of the CBS Evening News, the network said Tuesday.

Pelley is “among the very best reporters ever to work at CBS News,” the network's news chairman Jeff Fager said. "We like to think of CBS News as the 'reporter's network' and I can't think of anybody in this business better suited for the anchor chair than Scott."

Couric is wrapping up the $75 million, five-year deal she signed in 2006.
