Moments ago, the Swiss government announced that Oscar winning director Roman Polanski will NOT be extradited to the United States to face child sex charges, RadarOnline.com has learned.
The famed director - who had pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful sex with a minor back in 1977 - fled to his native France before he could be sentenced. He's been considered a fugitive ever since.

Oscar-winning director Roman Polanksi was transferred by Swiss officials to house arrest at his Alpine chalet in Gstaad, Switzerland early Friday.
The French-Polish filmmaker Thursday was moved from a Zurich, Switzerland jail to a secret location in anticipation of the move, while his wife, gorgeous French actress Emmanuelle Seigner, and their two children, Elvis, 9, and Morgane, 16, waited in Gstaad.

Academy Award winning director Roman Polanski will remain under house arrest at his Alpine chalet until he pays his full $4.5 million in bail, which should take at least another three days, Swiss Justice Ministry spokesman Folco Galli said Tuesday.

Roman Polanski's victim, Samantha Geimer, said that the increased media attention she has received since the director was arrested last month is causing her health and work problems as a result of the added stress, according to her lawyer, Lawrence Silver.

Authorities in Zurich will hold a extradition hearing after the U.S. requested Switzerland release convicted pedophile Roman Polanski into their custody, the Swiss justice ministry said Friday.
The extradition request comes 32 years after the director fled the states, as he awaited sentencing for a 1977 rape.

A Swiss court Tuesday rejected Roman Polanski's appeal to be freed from prison ahead of his possible extradition to the United States on charges that he had sex with a 13-year-old girl in 1977.
The Swiss Criminal Court rejected Polanski's appeal, saying the Academy Award winning director posed too high a flight risk.

Oscar winning director Roman Polanski moved a step closer to being extradited back to America Tuesday after the Swiss Government rejected an appeal to release him from prison.
Ministry spokesman Folco Galli explained the decision was made on the basis that they feel there is a high risk that Polanski might flee the country if he was released from jail.
The Chinatown and The Pianist directors lawyers have filed a separate court case as they try desperately to stop him being sent back to America.
