Controversial activist and actress Susan Sarandon has never kept her opinions to herself, and she is now claiming that her outspoken political opinions have made her a security risk.

"I've gotten my (FBI) file twice," the liberal activist revealed during a Q&A session with filmmaker Michael Moore at the Tribeca Film Festival on Sunday, reported the Los Angeles Times.

"I know my phone was tapped. If they're not surveilling you then everyone else has cameras on phones." She added, "I was denied security clearance to go to the White House [next week], and I don't know why."

Moore responded by saying: "I never think about it. It would unwind me. I assume everything I'm saying in an email or saying on the telephone is being looked at,” he added.

Rupert Murdoch’s Company To Pay 36 Victims, Including Jude Law, In Phone Hacking Scandal

By Radar Staff

Rupert Murdoch's News Group Newspapers has agreed to shell out restitution payments to 36 victims, including actor Jude Law, in the phone-hacking scandal that also saw Murdoch’s News of the World shut down last July after 168 years in circulation.

The A-lister Law is getting about $200,000 for 16 articles published between 2003 until 2006 that were derived by hacking.

Law said in a statement that Murdoch's publications were "prepared to do anything to sell their newspapers and to make money, irrespective of the impact it had on people's lives. ... I changed my phones, I had my house swept for bugs but still the information kept being published. I started to become distrustful of people close to me.

Alec Baldwin Rips Fox And News Corp. After Emmys Snafu

Posted on Sep 19, 2011 @ 03:30PM - 11 comments

By Alexis Tereszcuk - Radar Senior Reporter

Alec Baldwin missed the Emmy awards Sunday night and explained his absence in a biting post combining his trademark humor with a zinger at Fox network’s parent company News Corp.

Explaining that he had a prior commitment for a charity event, he said that he had pre-taped a skit with host Jane Lynch that the network decided not to air during the Emmys broadcast.

“In that routine, I made a joke about the News Corp. phone hacking scandal which the writers and producers had pre-approved before I made the trip. We shot the segment with the joke in. A couple of days later, I was informed that the producers had been told by some Fox entity that the joke had to be cut. I then asked that the entire piece be omitted, as I felt the joke was, perhaps, the funniest thing in it,” Baldwin wrote on the Huffington Post.

The Emmys are airing on the Murdoch-owned Fox TV, and the joke didn't sit well with the powers-that-be.

The phone hacking line, which Baldwin called "the funniest," was cut and when Alec found out, he asked that his entire skit be removed from the video, Deadline Hollywood Reports.

Producers made a last minute decision to re-tape the skit minus the offending phone hacking line with Star Trek's Leonard Nimoy.

Word from Fox is that the decision to cut the phone hacking line wasn't made out of fear it would offend Murdoch but because the company takes the matter "very seriously" and did not want to appear to be making light of it by including it in a comedy routine.

Either way, Baldwin, a nominee for his starring role on 30 Rock, won't be at the ceremony tonight. He's attending the 85th birthday bash for Tony Bennett in New York.

Kate Middleton And Her Family May Have Been Phone Hacking Victims

Posted on Jul 25, 2011 @ 01:30AM - 6 comments

By Radar Staff

Kate Middleton and her family are the latest high profile names to be dragged into the British phone hacking scandal.

Kate and her new husband Prince William, officially known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, have been contacted by the police investigating the ever-expanding News of the World phone hacking scandal, The Telegraph is reporting Sunday.

During the original investigation into the paper’s activity in 2005, Prince William, Prince Harry and three of their close aides were known to have been targeted. The investigation began and ended with them.

In light of the newer allegations which resulted in the closing of the 168 year-old London tabloid, investigators are concerned that the entire Middleton family may also have been hacked.

Guy Pelly, one of William and Henry's closest friends, filed a law suit against the News Of The World earlier this month alleging he was also hacked.

The scandal has resulted in several News of the World executives being arrested, and Rupert Murdoch, whose worldwide media empire owned the paper, being hauled before Parliament.

Hacking around the royals was much "more widespread than was known at the time [2005] and it involved a lot more people and a lot more hacking at all levels," a source close to the investigation told The Telegraph.

"They reached out and targeted as many people as they could in that world. If they've targeted Prince William and Prince Harry, you can assume that they targeted their friends and immediate family."  Like the Middletons.
