Two sources familiar with the situation exclusively tells RadarOnline.com that the teen was arrested for having narcotics in his possession.
As we first reported Tuesday, the younger Penn was busted at the school he attends in the posh Malibu area.

Sean Penn's 16-year-old son, was arrested sometime last week, according to two sources near the investigation who spoke exclusively with RadarOnline.com.
The younger Penn was taken into custody by the L.A. County Sheriff's department. Because he is a minor, authorities will not release details as to why he was arrested or if any charges have been filed.

A senior L.A. County Sheriff's source did tell RadarOnline.com the teenager was busted at the school he attends in the posh Malibu area.

Since his career hit another surge a couple of years ago with Into the Wild, it's becoming routine to hear about Sean Penn possibly romancing a new young beauty. But last night, the woman on the arm of the freshly single actor was none other than his daughter Dylan who recently headed off to college.

Penn and his daughter attended the Veev-sponsored eco-friendly premiere of Crude, The Real Price of Oil in Los Angeles. "He seemed really informed about the movie and passionate about the cause," a source said. "Leo's mom [Irmelin DiCaprio] attended. Seems like being environmentally conscious is becoming a family affair."

Sean and his much-younger companion laughed and joked through their meal, and at one point, he spoon-fed her some of his dessert.

After on-and-off attempts at reconciling their thirteen-year marriage, Robin Wright Penn and Sean Penn are done for good. The actress- who filed for divorce on August 12- opened up in a recent interview about finally calling it quits and why she pulls over twice a week to cry.
“I hit that crossroad a while ago. For Robin, the ‘I know what I don’t want’ was flashing neon lights,” she told MORE magazine. “I have no regrets. I, we, have two amazing children we raised together.” In the most recent divorce papers, it states the couple will have shared custody over their minor son Hopper Jack, 16, and “have already agreed to division of all property.”
The couple originally announced their separation in December 2007 but in April the following year, they filed a petition to dismiss the divorce. A year later, they attended the Academy Awards together and Penn won his second Oscar. However, in April 2009, he filed for legal separation and joint custody (he filed a request to dismiss the case in May). Now, she is focusing on getting their children ready for the real world.
