Robin Gibb has died at the age of 62 after a valiant battle with colon cancer.

The Bee Gees star’s family released a statement confirming the sad news that he died today at 10.46 am.

“The family of Robin Gibb, of the Bee Gees, announce with great sadness that Robin passed away today following his long battle with cancer and intestinal surgery,” the singer’s rep said.

Robin Gibb is gravely ill, and reportedly has slipped into a coma.

The former Bee Gee was hospitalized last year for stomach and colon problems, and had intestinal surgery last month, RadarOnline.com previously reported.

The beloved singer's son has confirmed that the 62-year-old musician is in a London hospital, and his wife Dwine and brother Barry are both with him, according to AP on Saturday.

Just a month after saying he was making a “spectacular” recovery from cancer, Bee Gees star Robin Gibb, 61, is back in the hospital recovering from a further surgery, and has been forced to cancel several commitments.

“On Sunday 25 March, Robin Gibb underwent further intestinal surgery," read a statement released Wednesday to British media. "He is currently recovering in hospital and therefore, for the time-being, all existing commitments prior to the Titanic Requiem concert, have had to be cancelled."

The 61-year-old co-founder of the the iconic 70s disco outfit, who’s looked particularly gaunt as of late, had recently been treated in a U.K. hospital for abdominal pain and inflammation of the colon.

As we previously reported, several insiders have said the musician is suffering from liver cancer, though Gibb stops short of getting into specifics in his latest blog, saying he’s “been very unwell,” but improving.

The Bee Gees star, 61, was diagnosed with the disease several months ago, USA Today is reporting from several U.K. sources, and he was rushed to hospital last Tuesday after feeling unwell.

The singer was discharged five hours later but it will do little to squash concern about how worryingly thin he has looked recently.

Gibb was also admitted to hospital last month because of inflammation of his colon afterward said, “I’m feeling great, absolutely great."

Since Tuesday, however, he has canceled several public appearances.

Gibb had undergone a life-saving procedure last year for a blocked intestine which was the same condition that led to the tragic death of his twin brother Maurice eight years ago.

He said that he still hasn’t “accepted” the death of his twin and admitted that he has found it difficult to move on.

“I just imagine he is out there somewhere, and I will bump into him one day,” he said in a recent interview.

Calls to the Robin’s rep by RadarOnline.com have so far not been returned.
