Just nine months after the horrific shootings in Tucson, Arizona, the local branch of the Republican party are planning to raise money by raffling off a Glock handgun, the exact same model that was used that fateful day.

The shootings on January 8 left six people dead, including a federal judge and a nine-year-old girl, and Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords battling for her life.

The Arizona Republic
reports that the choice of raffle prize has enraged some locals, who have been slamming the idea as being “insensitive and stupid.”

The 43-year-old, who plays Dr. House’s love interest, Dr Lisa Cuddy on the Emmy award winning drama, stars in a new 30-second TV ad as a woman who is forced into a “back alley” to undergo a pregnancy termination.

The message is a direct attack on what MoveOn.org claim is the Republican party’s assault on women’s health and their right to choose.

The ad opens with Edelstein dressed in 1950s-era clothing walking shakily down a hallway towards a door as you hear her voice saying: “Decades ago, women suffered through horrifying back alley abortions. Or, they used dangerous methods when they had no other recourse.”

And it ends with a terrified Edelstein, dressed in modern day clothing, tearfully opening a closet door to reveal a wire clothes hanger, a scene symbolically associated with the dangerous situations women were forced into before they gained reproductive rights.

Edelstein’s voice then asks: “Why is the G.O.P. trying to send women back to the back alley?”

The actress, who is an outspoken advocate for women’s rights, as well as a volunteer for the Best Friends Animal Society, Save the Children and Planned Parenthood, explained her decision to star in the ad: “I decided to do this ad because I believe that every woman needs to know the grave danger that women’s reproductive rights are facing in Congress right now,” she said.

“

I hope that women across America tell Congress that these bills are an attack on women’s health and that they are unacceptable.”

“

This ad is a wakeup call,” said Kat Barr, Campaign Director at MoveOn.org.  “If Republican proposals go through, women could once again face fear and danger when it comes to their reproductive health.

Sarah Palin's infamous map, targeting the 20 Congressional candidates she wanted defeated last November, is causing a firestorm of controversy in the wake of the Tucson shooting rampage.

As RadarOnline.com has been reporting, Palin posted a map on both her PAC (Political Action Committee) website and her own Facebook page. It detailed the 20 Congressional districts with Democratic Representatives who had voted for healthcare reform. What appeared to many to be crosshairs marked each location; it included a list of the Representatives names.

“’Dancing is just a conversation between 2 people’” Harry [Connick, Jr.] quotes in Hope Floats...Then Garth Brooks sings ‘to make you feel my love’, “ she wrote on her Twitter page.

For those of you who may lack some romantic comedy history, Hope Floats stars Sandra Bullock as a former high school beauty who retreats back to her small Texas hometown after she finds out her husband is having an affair with her best friend. She soon runs into an old friend- played by Connick, Jr.- who unexpectedly sweeps her off of her feet and helps heal her broken heart. As if Florida and the Republican party didn't already have enough of a history (think back nine years), the queen of controversy Carrie Prejean is now in the mix.

The state's GOP has tapped the former Miss California  --who morphed from San Diego beauty queen to the unofficial spokesperson against same-sex marriage -- to recruit young voters (18- to 35-year-olds) in the Sunshine State to get more involved politically active.

Prejean will speak about the future of the Republican Party at a gathering in Florida in August.

The move, considering Prejean's polarizing views, had already raised eyebrows amongst state Republicans such as Broward committeewoman Sandy Steen.

“It doesn’t seem like the smart thing to do,” said Steen. “She’s in the right age bracket, certainly, but they’re going to turn off some of the young people who are moderates -- that is not how you reach out to young people. She’s got every right to her opinions, but she can’t be the spokesperson for all the young people.”
