Carrie Underwood, the blond Oklahoma beauty who captured the season four American Idol crown, returned to the place where her wildly successful music career started.
The multi-platinum Grammy winner sang a duet with country crooner/ guest mentor Randy Travis, and the pair did not disappoint on Wednesday Night's American Idol.
"Man, she really has quite a voice," Newsday's Jamshid Mousavinezhad said. "Just the right twang, very sincere, every word enunciated, and soars amazingly on the chorus. Randy's sitting next to her on a stool playing the guitar; audience is totally quiet, listening. He's watching her carefully as he strums along, a total pro... this is definitely one of the best performances we've seen on the show; nothing like some of the embarrassments of past seasons with over-the-hill singers."

Megan Joy Corkrey, suffering from the flu, impressed on last night's American Idol with her performance of I Go Walking After Midnight.
The judges were particularly impressed with the gritty blond beauty: Kara DioGuardi praised Corkrey's seriousness, while Paula Abdul called her a "fighter".
Simon Cowell, as always, wasn't stingy with the backhanded compliments, telling Corkrey: "You should [have the] flu every week -- much better."
Idol's Anoop Desai Steals Country-Themed Night

Thank God he's a country boy.
With country crooner Randy Travis mentoring, and a Grand Ole Opry theme, Anoop Desai, the 21-year-old North Carolina college student seized the American Idol limelight Tuesday night with a soulful rendition of Always on My Mind.
Even Simon Cowell -- who shredded Desai's performance last week -- said Desai "managed to go from zero to hero" on country night.
"It was compelling, drew you in, and never seemed contrived or anything but natural," Newsday's Jamshid Mousavinezhad said of Desai. "As Simon noted, one of the things we like about Anoop is his personality--he's not a whiner, doesn't talk back mindlessly to the judges, and hopefully has now found his groove in the finals."
SoCal native Adam Lambert, 26, continued gaining momentum in the competition, belting out a rendition of Ring of Fire Newsday described as a hybrid of Jim Morrison and Ravi Shakur. The judges bought what Lambert was selling again, as Kara DioGuardi said it was "confused and sort of happy," while Simon Cowell dubbed it "absolute indulgent rubbish."
