St James's Palace on Wednesday said that Prince William and Kate raised more than 1 million British pounds, or about $1.61 million in American dollars, for charities as they tied the knot April 29.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had told their fans worldwide that in lieu of presents, they could donate to one of 26 approved charities via their Royal Wedding Charitable Gift Fund website.
