Tyra Banks shocked viewers when she fired not one but three key cast members on America’s Next Top Model last week, and now the reality host is explaining why the show is cleaning house.
“We reached a point where we feel the show needs a new boost," she told Access Hollywood at New York City's Matrix Awards, referring to why creative director Jay Manuel, runway trainer J. Alexander (known as Miss J) and photographer Nigel Barker were all given the boot just days earlier.

Nigel Barker doesn’t think the decision to fire him from America’s Next Top Model was a smart one.
The bloodbath at Tyra Banks’ ANTM reality show saw Jay Manuel, Miss J and Nigel let go after 18 seasons of the now-ratings challenged show, and Nigel slammed his ousting as a “huge mistake!”

And Tyra Banks wielded a triple axe on her long time America’s Next Top Model colleagues by axing most of them this week.

The 38-year-old fashion mogul has worked with creative director Jay Manuel, runway trainer J. Alexander (known as Miss J) and photographer Nigel Barker for the length of the long running series, which premiered in 2003.
But there’s no loyalty in the modeling world and all three of them have not had their contracts renewed for next season, according to the New York Post’s Page Six.
