Most of the time, we put our hair up in a pony tail and hit the waves but occasionally we want to look gorgeous (think cute boys at the beach) and show up with those effortless, bouncy waves like Jessica Simpson.

We asked Kevin Mancuso, Nexxus Creative Director, for some styling tips.

Step 1: Before blow-drying, apply a body boosting mousse, like Nexxus Thermal Volume, directly to damp hair. Then dry with a directional nozzle and paddle brush.

Step 2: After creating a middle part, add soft waves by curling the bottom half of hair, from ear level down, with a jumbo iron.

Step 3: Use your fingers to tousle and help loosen the curl.

Step 4: Finish with a light misting of Nexxus Comb Thru to give hair natural hold that lasts.

DNP Random Things

Kristen Bell made waves (pun intended) at this year’s MET Ball in New York City . While the look may appear effortless, it’s anything but.

To complement her form-fitting gown and smoky eye, celebrity stylist Kevin Mancuso created soft, tousled waves for a red-hot, red-carpet look.

Kevin, who has worked with A-list celebs like Sienna Miller, Blake Lively, Naomi Watts and Taylor Swift, offers his tips for recreating Kristen’s style at home:

Get The Look: Hilary Rhoda At The Met Gala:

“She wanted a natural-looking hair style,” said Mancuso “so I created an elegant mixture of uneven and even waves.  Combined with the perfect amount of subtle volume, the look was natural yet sultry.”

Best And Worst Of The Met Gallery:

PREP:
·Shampoo and condition hair with body building products to help give hair lift

STYLE:
·Apply a volumizing spray gel, like Nexxus Lavish Body, all over, with a heavier application at the root

·Blow-dry hair while using fingers to massage the scalp at the root to create lift and enhance the natural texture

·Once dry take a large round brush to round out the ends

·Use a curling iron randomly all over to create uneven waves

FINISH:
·Finger though a frizz taming lotion like, Nexxus Sleek Finish,  to define and separate waves

·Finish with a light misting of hairspray, like Nexxus Comb Thru for a touchable hold

Get The Look: Last Week's "Shear Genius" Hairdo

Posted on Mar 03, 2010 @ 02:38PM - Add a comment
DNP Random Things

On last week’s episode of Shear Genius, the stylists were challenged to restyle eight Bridesmaid’s hairdos at a traditional Indian wedding, from the ceremony to reception.  The result was the ultimate style transformation, which proves that sometimes, a hairdo change mid-party can be just as dramatic as a full wardrobe change.

LA SPOTLIGHT: The 15-Treatment To Silky, Shiny Hair

Nexxus Creative Director Kevin Mancuso put together four simple steps on how to take down an updo, and rework the hair to create a fun and flirty hairdo, like the winning look from last week’s episode.

PHOTOS: Lindsay Lohan’s Hairy History

-Take down updo by removing bobbi pins and accessories, then gently comb through hair with fingers to help detangle.

-Sweep hair to one side and use bobbi pins to secure in place.

-Us a large barrel curling iron to create random curls throughout loose sections of hair.

-Finish the look with a misting of strong-hold hairspray, like Nexxus Maxximum, to keep the style looking gorgeous.

Tune in to BRAVO on Wednesdays at 10 p.m EST for more winning looks.
