After Joran van der Sloot appeared in a Peruvian court Tuesday to fight an extradition order that could send him back to the U.S. to face new charges, RadarOnline.com is exclusively reporting that his attorney believes it is a waste of tax-payers’ money to have him stand trial in America.

“This week I am going to present a motion with the Inter-American Commission of Human Rights on behalf of Joran van der Sloot to halt the extradition of him from Peru to the U.S.,” explained one of attorneys Aldo Cotrina. “I believe it will be successful because our claims against Peru for human rights violation are strong.”

Convicted killer Joran van der Sloot is challenging attempts to have him extradited from Peru to the U.S. to stand trial for extortion and wire fraud charges in connection with the mysterious disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway in Aruba.

The Dutchman, who confessed to the murder of 21-year-old Stephany Flores in May 2010, appeared before a judge and prosecutor in a Lima, Peru courtroom for an extradition hearing on Tuesday and stated that he would prefer to finish serving a 28-year murder sentence there, reported CNN.com.

Peru has approved the extradition of convicted killer Joran van der Sloot to the U.S. to stand trial for extortion and wire fraud in connection with the disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway.

According to court documents obtained by Joran's attorney Maximo Altez, a Peruvian judge has approved a U.S. request for provisional detention, marking the first step in the extraction process and meaning he could land on American soil within three months, reported CNN.com.

Notorious Dutchman Joran van der Sloot pleaded guilty Wednesday to the 2010 murder of a 21-year-old Stephany Flores, a  business student he met at a casino in Lima, Peru.

"Yes, I want to plead guilty. I wanted from the first moment to confess sincerely," he told the court. "I truly am sorry for this act. I feel very bad."

After his brief statement, Van der Sloot's lawyer argued that his client killed Flores as a result of "extreme psychological trauma" he suffered from the intense scrutiny thrust upon him after the 2005 disappearance of an Alabama teenager on the Caribbean island of Aruba.

There is a new lead attorney in the legal battle to free Gary Giordano, the prime suspect in the murder of missing Maryland woman Robyn Gardner, RadarOnline.com has learned.

High-profile defense lawyer Chris Lejuez has taken over the reins from Michael Lopez, who has been running the case since Giordano was arrested on August 5, reported NBCWashington.com.

Aruban-based Lejuez is best known for successfully defending two security guards who were suspected in the 2005 disappearance of teenager Natalee Holloway on the Caribbean Island, they were both eventually released.

In the chilling video interview, the 24-year-old Dutchman told police that he hit and strangled the Peruvian student, according to DutchNews.nl.

In the video obtained by Peruvian news station RPP Noticias, which is in Spanish with Spanish subtitles, van der Sloot reportedly describes how 21-year-old Flores hit him after reading an e-mail that is thought to be about his connection to the disappearance of Natalee Holloway in Aruba in 2005.

After already spending 15 months behind bars, the murder trial of Joran van der Sloot could be further delayed, it was revealed in a court hearing on Monday.

Murder victim Stephany Flores' family has filed a request with a three-judge panel to have his indictment sent back to the prosecutor's office, according to  a news release sent by the the Lima, Peru, Superior Court to CNN.com.

Edward Alvarez Yrala, the attorney for family, told the panel that the indictment had "mistakes" but the exact nature of the errors has not been released.

Forester hopes that the extra time in an Aruban jail will encourage Giordano, who is the lone suspect in Robyn's disappearance and was the last person to see her alive on August 2, to tell the police what really happened to her.

The Dutchman was arrested in June 2010 and has been held at Lima’s run-down Castro Castro prison.

According to reports, prosecutors are seeking a 30-year prison sentence for Van der Sloot, 23, and a $73,000 restitution to Flores’ family.

As RadarOnline.com first reported, Flores, was found dead in a Lima, Peru hotel room that was registered to van der Sloot — and then it’s believed he took money and bank cards from her wallet and fled to Chile.
