Michael Brea was arraigned on charges of second degree murder Friday, in the shocking slaughter of his mother Yannick.

The actor who appeared in several episodes of Ugly Betty and the movie Stand-Up 3D did not enter a plea during his arraignment in the hospital prison ward where he's being held, RadarOnline.com has learned.

Brea was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon.

On November 23, Brea's mother, Yannick was found hacked to death -- and reportedly decapitated -- in her bathroom. Cops found the actor hiding in his bedroom with a three-foot sword.  The two shared an apartment in Brooklyn.

Brea's relatives are standing by him despite the gruesome nature of the crime.  In a statement, the family called him "a compassionate, gentle, intelligent, spiritual and loving man" who they say is in need of help.

"His family and friends know, without question, that Michael was not well in the moments leading to" Yanick's murder, the statement says.

In an interview with the New York Daily News, Brea claimed he was hearing voices prior to the attack.

Brea is undergoing a psychiatric evaluations and is being held without bail pending his December 18 court appearance.

Michael Brea, who played a recurring role on the defunct ABC TV series Ugly Betty, was arrested by New York police Tuesday on murder and weapons charges, as the 31-year-old actor is accused of fatally stabbing his mother with a 3-foot sword.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said the victim, Yannick Brea, 55, was found with cuts to her head in the bathroom of her Brooklyn apartment early Tuesday.

"In a bedroom was her son... with a 3-foot sword," the commissioner said, noting Brea was slated to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

According to WPIX11, Brea reportedly decapitated his mother's head Tuesday during the gruesome and vicious attack.

Charges are pending against Brea as the investigation continues, reports WPIX11.

Neighbors who lived on the first and third floors of the Park Place apartment building in Prospect Heights say heard screams coming from the building on the second floor at about 1:30am on Tuesday.

Neighbor Gregory Clare said: "I hear the brother chasing her [his mother] through the house and he's just saying a bunch of like [Bible] passages like, 'Repent, Repent, Repent. I heard him chasing her through the house and I hear a loud scream and so I have my father call the cops, call 911."

Officers described the crime scene as "extremely bloody" where Brea's mother, 55-year-old Yannick, was found and immediately pronounced dead.

"I had just dozed off to go to sleep and then I woke up to somebody screaming," Bernard Bent said.

"It sounded like lady's voice and after a while I just didn't hear the woman's voice again."

When officers arrived, they found the mentally disturbed 31-year-old actor.

He was excessively combative and police had to shoot him with a taser gun.

Brea was transported to Kings County Hospital with a police guard assigned to him.

The actor has not been formally arrested or charged yet.
