Nancy Kerrigan's brother Mark was sentenced Thursday to the maximum two and a half years in jail, one day after he was convicted of assault, but acquitted of manslaughter, related to the January, 2010 death of his 70-year-old father.
In a brief statement before sentencing, Mark Kerrigan told the Massachusetts court, "I love my father. I miss him very much.

Mark Kerrigan, the brother of Olympic figure skater Nancy Kerrigan who is charged with manslaughter for their father's death, got the terms of his
bail modified to allow for his knee surgery and extended household responsibilities.

Olympic skater Nancy Kerrigan's brother Mark Kerrigan pleaded not guilty to upgraded charges of manslaughter and assault and battery during his Friday arraignment at Massachusetts' Woburn Superior Court in the January 23 death of his 70-year-old father Daniel, RadarOnline.com has learned.
Authorities ordered Kerrigan held on $25,000 cash bail under conditions he continue to wear a GPS monitoring bracelet and stay on house arrest, except for medical or legal obligations. He agreed to not drink alcohol or use drugs, and be supervised by someone other than his mother to report probation violations, under the conditions spelled out by the court.

The death of Nancy Kerrigan's father, Daniel, has been ruled a homicide.
The Medical Examiner determined that the cause of death was "cardiac dysrhythmia following a physical altercation with neck compression causing injury to the neck in the form of a cartilage fracture to the larynx area, in a person with hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular heart disease.

Nancy Kerrigan’s troubled brother Mark is still being held at Bridgewater State Hospital undergoing psych evaluations, RadarOnline.com has learned.

A spokesperson for Bridgewater State Hospital told RadarOnline.com: “We can confirm that Mark Kerrigan is still here under evaluation.”
The army veteran has spent the past 10 days in the state hospital after officials deemed he was a potential danger to himself. He allegedly attacked his father Daniel Kerrigan at the family’s home in Stoneham, Mass. The 70-year-old subsequently died of a massive heart attack.
Nancy Kerrigan's Brother Has Violent Past
Mark was not permitted to attend his father’s funeral at St Patrick’s Church which was attended by hundreds of mourners including his famous Olympic skater sister Nancy, their heart-broken mom Brenda and brother Michael. The troubled 45-year old – who has battled substance abuse and mental illness for years and spent time in jail for violent crimes – pled not guilty to assault and battery charges but could face more serious ones if the alleged attack on his father is directly linked to his death.

A spokesperson from Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone’s office told RadarOnline.com that their investigations are continuing.
“Our investigations are ongoing in this case and it will be up to the Department of Corrections to decide what to do with Mr. Kerrigan once his evaluation has been completed," the spokesperson said. "He is scheduled for a pre-trial conference on February 24, 2010, and his lawyer will have to place a motion if he cannot be present on that date.”
