Joining a slew of other formidable rock groups who have turned their hits into narratives for the stage--Green Day threw their hat in the ring on Wednesday night with the world premiere of their musical American Idiot.

Armstrong and his bandmates Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool showed to the Berkeley Repertory Theater in Berkeley, Ca., where Levi's helped the trio ring in their big night.

Cool and Dirnt took front and center seats for the debut, buzzing with friends and loves ones about their excitement over the Michael Mayer-directed show (of Spring Awakening fame).

Armstrong chose to stick in the wings, leading a champagne toast afterwards.

"Punk is about taking chances," Armstrong said, certainly the case for the songwriter who took his first stab at dramatic arts, writing the book for the musical.

"Green Day's American Idiot album has had a profound impact on music and culture, and this show has the potential to revolutionize modern theatre," Levi's VP of Brand Marketing Doug Sweeny told us.

True to the band's roots, the after-party featured a barber chair where Billie Joe himself jumped behind the chair and created mohawks on two crowd goers.

While others may have gotten cuts, it's the band that should truly be buzzed. American Idiot runs at the Berkeley Rep through the end of November, with aspirations of hitting broadway.

Green Day is renowned known style-wise for their suburban Punk Rock niche--but how does one translate that to the stage?

RadarOnline.com had a front row seat for the big unveiling, and here's the low down on the show's look:

It's all about the skinny jeans! While the rocker-cut denim has only permeated pop culture over the past few years, this crowd has long been sporting them like The Ramones.

Costumer Andrea Lauer partnered with Levi's to create versatile and authentic looks--denim adorned with bondage gear like chains and leather for the hardcore rockers, exposed zippers and cargo detail for the punks and sand-blasting and low-rise fits for the girls that pepper the scene.

One of the biggest style moments is the unveiling of a military captain attempting to recruit one of the youth-in-revolt lead characters, who is dressed piece-by-piece in a shiny silk/wool polyblend suit.

Based on the life experiences of Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, a drug dealer named St. Jimmy is a prominent source of conflict in the musical, pushing heroin on the heroes in glam trash ensembles like faux-fur vests, shredded tanks and black plastic parachute pants.

Bottom line: Lauer and her stars make the rebellious self-expression of the Green Day oeuvre into splashy and spot-on representations of a subculture. Rock on!
