REPORT: Getting Rid Of Conan O'Brien To Cost NBC $40 Million

The deal is almost done. NBC will shell out approximately $40 million to end its relationship with Conan O'Brien, the New York Times is reporting.
Most but not all of the cash is going to Conan. A portion will go to pay off contracts of some key staffers.
Conan O'Brien Tells NBC To Take A Hike
The deal will also allow Conan to return to TV on a competing network no later than September.
Conan Would Be Happier Somewhere Else
NBC is expected to make an official announcement on the deal immediately after the ink is dry.
Conan's last broadcast is expected to be Friday. Jay Leno will move back into his old late night slot after NBC's Olympic coverage ends in early March.

Sex scandal? What sex scandal? David Letterman's indiscretions seem a distant memory at CBS. The eye-net is quietly finalizing its deal with Dave, extending his contract to fall, 2012, and both sides expect the contract to be signed in the next few days.

Craig Ferguson is also being extended to 2012 keeping the CBS late night line up in place without any of the crazed turmoil over at NBC.

Addressing the rumors that he'd been fired, Jay said, "That means I didn't sleep with my staff for nothing!" Ouch!!

Conan O'Brien was never funnier than Friday night when he tackled all the rumors about his future at NBC.
O'Brien and Jay Leno's respective shows are both in play at NBC as the network tries to fix the ratings disaster that came from moving Jay into prime time and Conan into the Tonight Show hosting gig.
