The force is not strong with Wicked Lasers.

Cinema icon George Lucas this week, via Lucasfilm Ltd., sent a cease-and-desist letter to the Japanese company, claiming their Pro Arctic Laser series is a rip-off of the light-sabers he made famous in his the six Star Wars films.

"It is apparent from the design of the Pro Arctic Laser that it was intended to resemble the hilts of our lightsaber swords, which are protected by copyright," said a letter sent from Lucasfilm Ltd. to the Hong Kong-based company. The letter went on to say that the aforementioned item is "a highly dangerous product with the potential to cause blindness, burns and other damage to people and/or property."

In response, Wicked Lasers CEO Steve Liu said, "would never use any comparison like that to Star Wars or a light saber or anything like that.

"Lucasfilm shouldn't be saying something like that," he said. "They're a big company that needs to protect their trademarks. Maybe they're having to look like they're protecting their trademark in case they need to [protect it again] later."
