The police accused of bungling the investigation into Anna Nicole Smith's death are firing back at a retired judge.

In a new book, former Circuit Court Judge Larry Seidlin claimed someone is guilty of manslaughter in the Playboy star's death. He does not name names.

But Seidlin was also highly critical of Seminole Indian Police Department, who he said was not sophisticated enough to investigate the death.

“They can tell you how to get to Elm Street or the public library, but this case was too much for them," he said Monday.

“I think there was foul play and it should be investigated by an independent agency."

In a statement just released, the Seminole Police Department told RadarOnline.com, “Seidlin is wrong.”

“Seminole Tribe Police completed a comprehensive investigation of the death of Anna Nicole Smith in complete cooperation with the Broward County Medical Examiner, the Office of the State Attorney and the Crime Lab of the Broward Sheriff's Office,” said spokesperson Gary Bitner.

“Since then, Seminole Police have worked closely with California investigators, who are prosecuting criminal charges in the case."

Seidlin presided over the six-day televised hearing into the fate of Smith's body, shortly after her February 2007 death.

In his tell-all titled The Killing of Anna Nicole Smith, Seidlin is also harshly critical of Smith's lawyer-turned-companion Howard K. Stern.

"I think enablers should be punished," Seidlin writes, referring to Stern.

"How about keeping her off drugs while she was alive?

“He was with her every day; how about saying no, and if she kicks your ass out, then goodbye and good luck."
