Meet Joe McGinniss: the 67-year-old Massachusetts writer is working on a Sarah Palin book -- and has moved into the Wasilla, Alaska home next door to the Palin family to the ire of the ex-Alaska governor, who’s furious about McGinniss living just 15 feet away from her and her family.

"I'm not observing them at all,” said McGinniss, who in an interview on The Today Show Tuesday, denied he's there to keep an eye on the Alaskan celebrity family, claiming he just got a good deal on a summer residence in the area while he’s there to interview her friends, neighbors and peers for his book.
"If I lived here and did something creepy, if I did what Sarah Palin is suggesting, that would be creepy," McGinniss said. “I don't care what they do in the privacy of their own home. I'm here to talk to people who have known them for 40 years in Wasilla.
"The fact is, I would be living in this house if Sarah Palin lived on the moon," he said. "Fifteen hundred bucks a month for a house in Wasilla."
Palin wrote of McGinniss in a snarky message on her Facebook page: "Wonder what kind of material he'll gather while overlooking Piper's bedroom, my little garden, and the family's swimming hole?"
McGinniss called the Facebook post "all sorts of ugly innuendo, which frankly is revolting," claiming Palin is the one who "has created all the publicity."
McGinniss he's received death threats in the wake of the Facebook post.
“She has pushed a button and unleashed the hounds of hell, and now they’re out there slavering and barking and growling,” McGinniss said. “That’s the same kind of tactic -- and I’m not calling her a Nazi -- but that’s the same kind of tactic that that the Nazi troopers used in Germany in the ’30s, and I don’t think there’s any place for it in America.”
