Birds Trounce Elephants At the Box Office

Rio 3D, the animated adventure of two love-struck birds who travel to Brazil, was the clear box office winner this weekend. With Anne Hathaway and Jesse Eisenberg as the voice stars, it pulled in $26.8 million in its second week in release.
It easily demolished Reese Witherspoon and Rob Pattinson's circus-themed love story, Water for Elephants. It finished third in its opening weekend, with just $17.5 million in ticket sales.

With the voices of Anne Hathaway and Jesse Eisenberg as love struck birds seeking adventure in Rio de Janeiro, Rio 3D killed at the box office this weekend.
It took in an estimated $40 million, more than double Scream 4. That Courteney Cox and David Arquette reteaming had a disappointing $19 million opening.

The Fighter’s Melissa Leo should have gotten a bar of soap to accompany her Oscar statuette at Sunday’s Academy Awards, as actress cursed during her acceptance speech after winning the honors for best supporting actress.
"I'm just shaking in my boots here," she said, before thanking her co-stars Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale.
"When I watched Cate two years ago, it looked so f **king easy," Leo said in reference to actress Cate Blanchett. (Note: the ceremony was presented on tape delay, and ABC was able to bleep out the offensive phrases.)

The Academy Awards is always a yearbook of what's hot -- not just in the movies, but society as well -- and on Sunday night, producers gave a comedic nod to the auto-tune-fueled viral video epidemic, mashing up a number of the year's films in a medley YouTube sensation Antoine Dodson couldn't have done any better.

The King's Speech reigned supreme at Sunday's Screen Actors Guild Awards, taking home the honors for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, while star Colin Firth picked up the Best Actor award. Meanwhile, Natalie Portman won Best Actress for her dark turn in Black Swan, making her and Firth the clear Oscar frontrunners.

Jesse Eisenberg hosted the show, and the actor who is Oscar-nominated for playing Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network was sandwiched on stage by SNL star Andy Samburg impersonating Zuckerberg and the real-life Facebook founder himself!

A slew of stars -- from Hollywood's young guns, including Natalie Portman and Jesse Eisenberg to Hollywood's 'senior sect' like Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth -- scored Oscar nominations Tuesday.
The nominees for the 83rd Academy Awards were announced in Beverly Hills, and The King's Speech ruled with a leading 12 nominations, including a best picture nod and individual honors for Firth, Helena Bonham Carter and Geoffrey Rush.

With a title like Adventureland, you’d expect some thrills in this coming-of-age comedy. But frankly, it’s about as fun as standing in line for a rollercoaster for two hours. You wait and wait for some action, it’s really fun for like two minutes, and then afterwards you’re like, “That’s it?”
