WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: True Grit Has True Staying Power
Posted on Jan 09, 2011 @ 08:16AM - Add a comment

True Grit has finished # 1 in the weekend box office race, an almost unheard-of accomplishment for a picture in its third week of release. The Jeff Bridges Western epic brought in $15 million in ticket sales. It edged out Little Fockers, which grossed $13.8 million.
Season of the Witch isn't going to help Nicolas Cage's troubled finances. His latest flick opened at number three, to a modest $10.7 million. That doesn't bode well for the actor's asking price going forward.

It may have finished # 1 at the box office but with just $48.3 million in ticket sales over the five-day Christmas weekend, that figure is a major disappointment for Little Fockers, a film that cost $100 million to make. Ben Stiller, Dustin Hoffman, Robert DeNiro, Barbra Streisand, Owen Wilson -- all those big stars with big salaries couldn't buy the love.

The Lovely Bones (R)

The Young Victoria (PG)
Growing up is hard to do, even for members of the royal family. The Young Victoria chronicles the 19th century ruler’s ascent to the throne, the great love she found for her own cousin (minus legal constraints), and the power struggle among her relatives, advisors, subjects and, yes, even her own husband, that she navigated before finding her stride as a leader, wife and woman in the public eye. (Emily Blunt [Queen Victoria], Rupert Friend [Prince Albert])
