Jerry Sandusky: Joe Paterno Never Confronted Me About Child Abuse Allegations

Posted on Dec 03, 2011 @ 01:30PM - 3 comments

By Radar Staff

Jerry Sandusky claims that his former head coach Joe Paterno never confronted him about child abuse allegations.

In an interview with the New York Times Sandusky, 67, says that after he was accused of raping a 10-year-old boy in the locker room at Penn State in 2002, Paterno did not question him nor broach the subject with him at all.

He further maintains that Paterno did not ask him anything about similar molestation allegations that had been launched four years prior.

“I never talked to him about either one. That’s all I can say. I mean, I don’t know,” Sandusky mumbled during the interview that was conducted in the presence of his lawyer, Joseph Amendola. “He’s the only one who knows whether anybody ever said anything to him.”

Paterno was fired last month after 62 years at the University for failing to report the heinous allegations to the police.

Sandusky continued to deny that he did anything wrong and maintains he never molested children.

“These allegations are false, I didn’t do those things,” he said. “I’m not the monster everyone made me out to be. I didn’t engage in sexual acts.”

Sandusky claimed that his inappropriate behavior around young boys was being twisted by the prosecutors.

“They’ve taken everything that I ever did for any young person and twisted it to say that my motives were sexual or whatever,” Sandusky said.

Sandusky said that he had “precious times” with the children he met through the Second Mile charity, bought them gifts and was physical with them but denied any impropriety.

The former coach seemed fidgety and uncomfortable during the sit-down interview -- some of which was videotaped -- where he also addressed his bizarre answer to Bob Costas who'd asked him if he was attracted to underage boys during an earlier interview.

“I’m attracted to young people – boys, girls,” he said, but then clarified after prompting by his attorney that he enjoyed “spending time with young people. My two favorite groups are the elderly and the young.”

Sandusky is set to return to court on December 13 for a preliminary hearing.
