The words “Ritz Carlton” conjure up images of luxury, beautiful resorts in exotic locations and world-class service. From the restaurant to almost every room, you have an ocean-view.
With the “perfect break” the area is known for its surfing and the hotel capitalizes on this by offering surf lessons (Billabong Surf Experiences.) There is also staff down AT the beach to provide towels, chairs, water, boogie boards, sunscreen which makes going to the beach a breeze. Dana point is also an ideal place to golf so the Ritz also offers access to numerous local goft courses.

The man who gave us Margaritaville and the license to chill now has his own hotel, the aptly named Margaritaville Beach Hotel on the barrier island of Pensacola Beach in the Gulf of Mexico. Inspired by the musician’s lyrics, the two 162- room hotel is the true Island Escape with over 800 feet of stunning gulf-front property, with an additional 800 feet overlooking the bay.
The guest rooms, which include 24 suites, all overlook the bay or the gulf and the lifestyle is definitely laid back. Parrotheads welcome.
Sheraton Universal Hotel: The Good... And The Bad

First, the good news: The Sheraton Universal hotel is all about location, location, location. Two minutes down the hill from Universal Studios and City walk, it is perfectly located to take advantage of the tour, the rides, and the shows at Gibson Amphitheatre and City Walk. If you don’t plan on spending much time in the hotel, it’s a fine spot to set up camp. Also, the prices are downright inexpensive. Figure on $139 for an average room.
Check out more photos:
The bad news: The rooms are small and cramped. Only the suites have a tiny patio. The service is just adequate. The pool is pint sized and the pool café /bar was sporadically staffed even on a Saturday.
Bottom Line: If you’ll be spending all day out playing, then the hotel is fine. As such, it’s much more a tourist hotel than a destination resort.
Travel To Terranea

erranea. The name conjures up visions of a sun-bleached Italian villa overlooking vineyards, if it weren’t for the breath-taking coastal views of the Pacific. The luxurious new resort is situated on the Palos Verdes Peninsula in California, where the old Marine land used to be, and boasts world-class accommodations, impeccable service, and a wonderful salt water pool, outside bars with fireplaces, golf, and spa – everything you would ever want. The old-world elegance doesn’t come with an attitude however; the feeling is relaxed and friendly.
For more photos, check out the photo gallery:
The hotel was built to take advantage of the idyllic setting, with hikes and trails throughout the property. Featuring 3 main restaurants, including the up-scale mar'sel, and casual grills for a snack around the pool or at the spa, there’s something for everyone.
The 102 acre resort is also a wedding favorite, as we saw this last weekend when the Bachelor Jason Mesnick got married to his lady-love, Molly Malaney in a torrential rain fall!
Bachelor Jason Mensick Ties the Knot:
The hotel always offers specials so check the site for your perfect vacation.

The Beach House in Hermosa has everything you want in a hotel. You’ve got the beach, well appointed ocean -- front suites, fireplaces in every room, luxurious bathroom and did we mention the beach?
Built on the Strand in picturesque Hermosa Beach, 10 miles from LAX, it’s a homey hotel with the perfect location. Walk up the Pier for boutiques and restaurants, or on miles of beach and pick up a Volleyball game. Hermosa is also known for his nightlife so there’s plenty to do at night though we chose to uncork a bottle of wine and relax on our small patio. The separate bedroom and living room make it feel spacious and the built -- in kitchen makes it handy for families.
Each of the 96 loft suites are designed to take advantage of the beautiful ocean views from both the living room and bedroom and 80% of the hotel suites have some sort of ocean view. The beds are custom made and exquisitely comfortable.
Though the hotel doesn’t have a restaurant, they offer room service from nearby cafes and a complimentary Continental breakfast
in a sunny room off the lobby. (Each table has its own toaster!)
An Ocean-Front is $329 on the weekends; Ocean-view is $279; partial view $249 and Standard is $239 but there are always special rates
Getting Grand in La Jolla

If San Diego is too much of a college party town for the weary traveler, try stopping instead at the wealthy beachside enclave of La Jolla, Calif.
With many choices of where to stay, it was difficult choosing which picturesque hotel to check out. We decided to go with the city's oldest original hotel: The Grande Colonial. Nestled on Prospect Street, it continues to be in the middle of the town's heart and a short stroll from the beach where sea lions still roam.
