Legendary cinematographer Mike DeGruy has died in a helicopter crash in Australia.

The Emmy and BAFTA-winning filmmaker and adventurist, who lived in Santa Barbara, lost his life alongside Australian writer/producer Andrew Wight after their chopper went down on route to scouting a location for a new project.

A helicopter helping to install a seven-story Christmas tree in Auckland, New Zealand Wednesday crashed in dramatic fashion, and it was all caught on tape!

It happened when the helicopter’s rotors hit a cable meant to hold up the tree. In just a matter of seconds, the copter was nearly ripped in two and plunged to the ground in a mangled mess.

UPDATE: A woman has been confirmed dead in the helicopter crash after being trapped in the underwater wreckage.

The remaining passengers are being treated in Bellevue and NYU Hospitals, another woman was in cardiac arrest and two others are also in critical condition, reported the New York Post.

A fourth person, also a man, was treated on the pier.
