Glee star Jane Lynch, appearing on Chelsea Lately, recalled how she told her parents she was gay at the age of 32.

Lynch, who plays cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester on Fox's Glee, said, she "was living the gay lifestyle prior to [coming out to them.]"

"I was distanced from my parents," said Lynch, who married wife Lara Embry last year. "And I felt very, very separate from them.”

Lynch, 51, remembered that after sharing those feelings in therapy, her therapist told her to write the letter and that she wouldn't have to send it.

Lynch, who plays cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester on Fox's Glee, said her wife Lara Embry helped her work on her new memoir, Happy Accidents. She said among the tidbits her spouse learned about her, was that she wouldn't wear a shirt while riding her bike through the neighborhood -- well into her teens.

"It happens sometimes," she said. "I wanted to be a boy!"

Lynch, who hosted the Emmys this year, said she would hide in her father's closet and wear his clothes and "pretend to be drinking a Martini.

The 51-year-old Emmy Award winning actress has revealed in her forthcoming biography, Happy Accidents, how she used to drink bottles of NyQuil syrup -- an over-the-counter medication that aims to relive symptoms of the common cold -- when she stopped consuming alcohol in 1991 at the age of 31, due to fears she was becoming dependent on booze.

She wrote in her book: "I found myself eating about a gallon of chocolate ice cream daily to replace the copious amounts of sugar my body was used to from my daily beer intake.
