As clear cut the fashion winners and losers from the weekend may be, there are just as many style dilemmas. From red carpets on both coasts, stars confused us with their approaches.

Penelope popped up in New York at the premiere of her new flick Broken Embraces, sporting a Fall '09 Haider Ackermann number. While we're fans of the constructed top, the skirt stitching gives a frumpy effect.

Likewise, Styles impressed north of the waist in Cynthia Rowley, appearing at a Broadway opening, but the cocktail frock's bejeweled-slip hem looks sophomoric to us.
