In a sad segment on Tuesday's Today Show, one-time Hollywood hunk Ryan O'Neal came off as a broken man, admitting his failure as a parent and his profound loneliness without longtime love Farrah Fawcett, as he himself now battles cancer.

Ryan -- who abruptly left the show's New York set for a scheduled chat Monday -- said he'd "just broke out into a terrible sweat.

Ryan O'Neal's son Griffin O'Neal has been sentenced to 16 months in prison after pleading guilty to two felony counts of driving under the influence and possession of a firearm by a felon (he already had a considerable rap sheet).

His sentencing on Friday in San Diego County Superior Court was for an incident last August where Griffin hit another car, injuring the driver, while he was under the influence, and cops then found the gun in his car.

Griffin O'Neal was arrested on New Year's Eve is San Diego, Calif. on charges of domestic battery, RadarOnline.com is exclusively reporting.

The 47-year-old son of actor Ryan O'Neal was booked at 6:23 p.m. on Saturday and is being held at the San Diego Central Jail on $10,000 bail.

According to the report obtained by RadarOnline.com, Griffin's domestic battery charge is a misdemeanor and he has an arraignment on Thursday.

As RadarOnline.com previously reported, Griffin was hospitalized in August after he was involved in a head-on car crash, for which he was later found to be under the influence of drugs.

Griffin O’Neal pleaded not guilty on Thursday to six felony and misdemeanor counts, including driving under the influence causing injury, possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a controlled substance.

It all came down in a San Diego, Calif. court less than 24 hours before his half brother, Redmond, admitted to a Los Angeles judge that he'd used drugs while on probation for drug convictions!

Griffin, 46, was under the influence of drugs Aug. 2, when he careened into oncoming traffic and hit another car, injuring the other driver, Deputy District Attorney Vanessa DuVall told the judge.
