An autopsy on Grease and Taxi star Jeff Conaway has resulted in a ruling that his tragic death was an accident, RadarOnline.com can report.

The actor - who battled a public addiction to drugs - died from a major internal infection, according to the Associated Press.

Conaway was taken off life support on May 27th and died at just 60.

Los Angeles County coroner Craig Harvey said a toxicology test was not conducted because the troubled star had been hospitalized for weeks prior to his death, so his blood would have come back clean.

However he said when Conaway entered the hospital opiates and other drugs were in his system.

Conaway appeared on Celebrity Rehab and worked with Dr. Drew Pinsky who said the actor "was a terribly complex case with chronic pain, opiate addiction and severe childhood trauma."

On April 29, Conaway was appearing at Anaheim Wizard World Comic Con, where he was interviewed by What’s Up Orange County, a popular local access cable show.

He seemed in fine form, singing songs from Grease, talking about his past successes – 90 films, five Broadway shows and seven TV series – with What’s Up Orange County producer and host Scott Stewart.  He also revealed he was about to make a film called Orson’s Last Dance, which he believed would finally win him an Academy Award.

Conaway introduced his girlfriend Vicki Lizzi, and spoke about how much in love they were.

Off-camera, he told Stewart that he was not well.  “He told me he’d just had surgery and was in a lot of pain,” Stewart tells RadarOnline.com exclusively.

Days later, the actor and Lizzi were requesting restraining orders against each other, and on May 11, Conaway was discovered unconscious in his home.

Jeff Conaway’s passing has his friends and family already missing him, but staying hopeful that he’s “in a better place.”

As RadarOnline.com was first to report the 60-year-old actor sadly died on Friday morning after he was pulled from the life-support that sustained him after he’d slipped into a coma.

Conaway’s first wife, Rona Newton John, (also his Grease co-star Olivia Newton John’s sister) told RadarOnline.com she was not with him in the hospital the moment he passed but had been there for the last couple weeks supporting him.

“I was not there today...but I’ve been there for the last two weeks. The whole thing is very sad,” Rona said.

Actor Jeff Conaway has died at age 60, marking the end of a long, sad road of addiction that made him one of Hollywood's cautionary tales.

The New York native was best known for playing T-Bird Kenickie in the iconic musical Grease, and struggling actor Bobby Wheeler on the television series Taxi.

Jeff Conaway’s former fiancée Vikki Spinoza was not with the actor when he passed-away Friday, RadarOnline.com has learned.

Spinoza, commonly known as Vikki Lizzi, had gotten embroiled in a feud with the actor’s family and was fighting for them not to take him off life support.
