“It was actually Franco who approached television exec Jill Farren Phelps about working on the show,” the source revealed. “He was interested in exploring all aspects of his craft and wanted to work on a soap opera because of its intense shooting schedule.”

During the 2-month story-arc, which coincides with November sweeps, Franco will play a mystery man who comes to Port Charles and becomes “the worst nightmare” for Jason Morgan, played by Emmy winner Steve Burton.
Executive producer Phelps said in a statement that it is “an honor that an actor of Franco's caliber would choose to spend some of his valuable time in Port Charles.” Franco’s last television projects were the short-lived but much-beloved series Freaks and Geeks and the biopic James Dean which he won his Golden Globe for.
