Mindy McCready's cousin has penned an open letter to the troubled country singer and leapt to the defense of her mother Gayle McCready Inge, RadarOnline.com is exclusively reporting.
While James Cartright Jr. admits the troubled songstress is a “very charming person” and “a beautiful, talented woman”, he says the 34-year-old is full of “half-truths and full-blown lies” and is “haunted by her own denial.”
Cartright states in the letter -- sent exclusively to RadarOnline.com -- that he is speaking out to protect Mindy’s four-year-old son Zander, who lives with Gayle in Fort Myers, Florida.

The 34-year-old was rushed to a Fort Myers hospital on Tuesday suspected of a drug overdose. Her mother, Gayle McCready Inge, told RadarOnline.com that Mindy took about 25 pills used for the treatment of OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder).

As RadarOnline.com first reported Mindy was asked to take a drug test by the state of Florida last Wednesday during a hearing to regain custody of her 4-year-old son Zander.
Mindy lost custody three years ago because of drug problems and domestic violence issues. Since then, her mother, Gayle, has been the legal guardian.

Kat Atwood, Mindy’s publicist, says “in order to visit her son, she had to take a serious of drug tests last Wednesday.” And, she says Mindy passed the tests.
Atwood also confirms that Mindy remains in Cape Coral Hospital and “was sitting up yesterday.”

And although her mom Gayle, who called 911, told RadarOnline.com that Mindy was attempting suicide, Atwood says “there is nothing to support she tried to commit suicide.”

Celebrity Rehab’s Dr. Drew Pinsky is speaking out about Country Star Mindy McCready's alleged overdose of amphetamines.

RadarOnline.com first reported that Gayle McCready Inge, Mindy’s mom, says the 34-year-old took about 25 pills that are used to treat OCD, and that she tried to take her own life.
Mindy, who’s trying to make a comeback and regain custody of her 4-year-old, still keeps in contact with Dr. Drew even though the VH-1 show wrapped in December 2009.

The board certified doc tells us, "I have been in touch with Mindy. I don't see this as related to her addiction per se," Dr. Drew tells RadarOnline.com. Mindy remains hospitalized in Florida, and her mother Gayle says “she will be hospitalized for maybe a week, but at least three more days.”

Dr. Drew would not elaborate on how the overdose is not related to Mindy’s addiction.
Mindy was a popular cast member of Celebrity Rehab 3, and had been doing very well with her sobriety, Dr, Drew told RadarOnline.com. "I have kept in contact with Mindy, and she has been doing very well. Her mother Gayle is with her at the hospital, and she is being very supportive of Mindy. I think they are acting appropriately in dealing with this current situation."

Mindy’s publicist released a statement saying “We have not been given information to confirm the reports of an overdose or attempted suicide.
It should be noted that the relationship between Mindy and her mother, Gayle, is volatile and unhealthy. They are currently in the midst of a custody battle for the guardianship of Mindy’s son.”

Country singer Mindy McCready took a near lethal dose of prescription pills in what was a failed suicide attempt, her mother tells RadarOnline.com exclusively.
A devastated Gayle McCready Inge even admitted covering up for her troubled 34-year-old daughter earlier on Tuesday, but spoke out to RadarOnline.com, to set the record straight.
Inge said McCready, who remains in a Florida hospital, has admitted she attempted to take her own life with an amphetamine drug, used to treat obsessive compulsive disorder.
Inge also admitted to taking Darvocet and another muscle relaxer.

“I asked Mindy how many pills did you take,” Inge told RadarOnline.com.
“She said maybe 25. I said that’s it, and that’s when I called 911.

“Mindy told the 911 people that she absolutely didn’t care if she lost her life.
“My daughter is very, very sick.”

There are conflicting reports whether or not McCready left a suicide note. Inge has been told her daughter left a confession on her computer, but a search has so far failed to find it.
However, Inge admitted she discovered a series of letters McCready wrote to her attorney in which she criticized her mother, who cares for McCready's four-year-old son Zander.
“I am in shock about what she wrote about me,” Inge said.
McCready has been staying with her mother Gayle Inge in Ft. Myers for a week, despite being locked in a custody dispute with her daughter.
“I’ve allowed Mindy to come here and stay... this after she has bad mouthed me... so she can see her child,” Inge said.

This was McCready’s first suicide attempt since in 2008, when the singer took an overdose of pills.

A Cape Coral Hospital spokeswoman told RadarOnline.com McCready remains in a "good condition” and is resting, after being admitted at 11:26 ET Tuesday morning.

Inge’s admission conflicts with a statement from McCready's attorney, James Moon, who earlier described speculation of a suicide or overdose as "irresponsible."
"My understanding is she took a mild pain reliever because she hurt her foot and she had a bad reaction to the medicine," Moon said.

He added that Inge had made "cautious overreaction" to the situation.
In the 911 call, released on Tuesday, Inqe told an operator: “My daughter has taken an overdose.”

The gripping 911 call that Country star Mindy McCready’s mom made after finding her daughter Tuesday morning with an empty bottle of pills has been released, and RadarOnline.com has the recording.
The call begins with “My daughter has taken an overdose.” Gayle McCready Inge says to the 911 operator “I don’t know how many pills my daughter has taken; I thought I could handle it. And I could get her to a hospital, but she’s evidentially taken a whole bunch.”
At one dramatic point when asked if the overdose was intentional, Inge replies that it was.
“Is she completely alert?” the operator. “No absolutely not—I can talk to her, but she’s in and out,” Gayle responds.
