Mariah Carey was tearful Saturday night as celebrities paid tribute to her at the 5th Annual BET Honors.

The singer had a rollercoaster start to the year when husband Nick Cannon was hospitalized suffering from mild kidney failure.

But the couple put all that behind them to attend the event in Washington, DC. She became emotional as her husband delivered a heartfelt speech to her and cried when Patti LaBelle serenaded her with her classic ballad Hero.

Looking amazing WITH not a hint of any baby weight after giving birth to twins nine months ago, Mariah wore a nude and black figure-hugging gown.

Cannon brought their gorgeous son Moroccan out on stage while their daughter Monroe was a bit more stage shy and stayed behind the scenes. Mariah kissed and cuddled Nick, happy to have him back in good health.

Gabrielle Union
was the host of the ceremony which also honored Stevie Wonder, Spike Lee and Maya Angelou.

First Lady Michelle Obama was also there and presented the Literary Arts award to poet Angelou.

Other guests included Kelly Rowland, who wowed in a lilac dress with a thigh-high split and Willow Smith who left her usual wacky wardrobe at home and looked very grown up in a yellow capped-sleeved gown.

The special will air on BET February 13.

First Lady Michelle Obama has cemented her standing as the nations’ First Fashionista.

As for South Korean First Lady Kim Yoon-ok, she wore a traditional Korean dress -- called a hanbok -- in pink and white.

Unlike some state dinners, there wasn’t a whole lot of Hollywood star power at this one -- tennis great Billie Jean and ABC News correspondent JuJu Chang were some of the more well-known names among the 220-plus invited guests.

King told Fox news she'd spent the day reading up on the just-passed U.S. free-trade agreement with South Korea and was "just excited to be here and be a part of it and share." It was her first state dinner.

Other guests included Ford CEO Alan Mullaly, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro.

The dinner included butternut squash bisque, a Korean-inspired salad featuring daikon sheets and masago rice pearl crispies, wagyu beef from Texas and chocolate cake served with a blend of Korean and American pears. The guests also dined on vegetables from the White House garden.

There were other elements of the Korean culture worked into the evening, including Korean knotting on the menu cards, deep red bamboo vases on some tables and chrysanthemums in the floral arrangements. In Korea, bamboo represents integrity, and chrysanthemums are a sign of a productive and fruitful life, the White House said.

The entertainment lineup incorporated both U.S. and Korean culture. The Ahn trio, sisters born in Seoul and reared in New York who play piano, violin and cello, performed with a high-energy fusion of jazz and classical sounds. Next up was Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Janelle Monae from Kansas City, Kansas, who sings a blend of alternative, R&B and funk sounds.

We're not gonna evaluate the respective political performances of US President Barack Obama or French President Nicolas Sarkozy here, but we can say their better halves have great tastes in the wardrobe department.

First Lady Michelle Obama met up with French First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy at the D-Day landing memorial ceremony in France this weekend. We're not sure who sent the memo, but both stylicious political mademoiselles matched to a tee in white belted dresses and kitten heels.

Carla (whose nude photo drew $19,600 at a Berlin auction house last week) wore a simple cap-sleeve structured Christian Dior frock, accessorizing it with a thin black belt and black kitten heels.

Michelle Obama didn't disappoint, going very Jackie O like in a Narciso Rodriguez white dress ensemble, adding her personal flare with a thick metallic belt and kitten heels.

Two fashionable First Ladies in white -- designer whites, that is!

DressGate: Walters Explains Fashion Hat Trick, Cries Recessionista!

Posted on May 12, 2009 @ 11:59AM - Add a comment

On Monday morning, we were the first to point out Barbara Walters' political and style taboos by wearing the same outfit -- a quaint black dress with garish embellishments -- at two high-profile events in a week. And both in the presence of the First Lady Michelle Obama.

Well, things always come in threes and when Barbara Walters hit the red-carpet Monday night for an event at Lincoln Center, take a guess what she wore?

Barbara took to her platform The View this morning to confront the media frenzy surrounding her sartorial selection.

"So beit" Walters said, "the cha-cha in me, I wore the same dress again last night!"

"We've got a bad economy. What, I'm going to buy a new dress for every [occasion]?"

Check out the clip above.

Co-host Sherri Shepherd even chimed, saying "we are in a reccession, you are doing your part."

No word, though, on whether or not the dress was washed!
