New Mexico University women's soccer defender Elizabeth Lambert said she "deeply regrets" the physical, nasty style of play she displayed on ESPN's national stage during her team's 1-0 loss to Brigham Young University earlier this month.
“I still deeply regret it and will always regret it and will carry it through the rest of my life not to retaliate,” she told the New York Times Tuesday of the November 5 game, which prompted school officials to indefinitely suspend her. “I look at it and I’m like, ‘That is not me.' I have so much regret. I can’t believe I did that.”

The schools website just released a statement saying, “University of New Mexico head women's soccer coach Kit Vela announced today that junior defender Elizabeth Lambert has been suspended indefinitely for her actions in Thursday's match against BYU in the semifinals of the Mountain West Conference Championship in Provo, Utah.”
RadarOnline.com contacted the NCAA to see what their input was on the incident and were told, “Regular season and conference are overseen by the schools and the conference themselves. They’re the ones that dictate what happens. We’re certainly here to provide advice if they ask, but otherwise it’s up to them.” Calls to NMU’s head coach, Kit Vela, and the Athletic Department Administration were not returned.

Listed at 5’8” on her soccer profile on the NMU website, Lambert is described as “fearless when making a challenge” and uses “her size and aggressiveness to stop the opposing attack”. She’s majoring in University Studies with a focus on Occupational Therapy, which should come in handy after all the havoc she’s been causing on the soccer field!

Pittsburgh Steelers tough man Hines Ward recently won a peer-conducted poll giving him the title of "dirtiest player in the NFL," but the 6-foot, 204-pound wide receiver looks like a choir boy next to New Mexico University women's soccer defender Elizabeth Lambert.
Lambert's aggressive, dirty play was displayed on ESPN's national stage during her team's 1-0 loss Thursday night to Brigham Young University, and the results -- unlike her -- weren't pretty.
