EXCLUSIVE: Gary Coleman's Parents Fight His Ex's Claims To His Estate

Posted on Aug 05, 2010 @ 07:10AM - 7 comments

The battle over Gary Coleman’s estate continues and his parents are taking the next step to ensure that their son’s assets and interests are kept out of the hands of his ex-wife Shannon Price.  In exclusive documents obtained by RadarOnline.com, Willie and Edmonia Coleman are asking that the court dismiss Shannon’s request to recognize her union to Gary as a common law marriage.

EXCLUSIVE DOCUMENTS: Willia and Edmonia’s Response to Shannon’s Petition for Common Law Marriage

According to documents filed Wednesday in Utah, the Colemans deny that Shannon is Gary’s surviving spouse and even question the validity of the circumstances surrounding how the couple met. They also question whether Gary and Shannon actually lived together after purchasing the home and if they continued to live together up until his death.

They are also asking for a legal conclusion as to whether or not the couple were capable of giving consent when they allegedly married in 2007.

EXCLUSIVE DOCUMENTS: Shannon Price Files For Common Law Marriage

RadarOnline.com broke the story that Shannon filed papers with the court last month asking that she be recognized as Gary’s common law wife. Among the reasons Shannon’s lawyer listed in the documents are: the couple continued a “romantic relationship” even after the divorce, they attended to each others physical, emotional and welfare needs, filed joint taxes, celebrated holidays together, and jointly owned and shared personal property.

Utah’s common law marriage code states that five conditions have to be met: both parties are of legal marriage age and are able to give consent, are capable of being married, live(d) together as man and wife, assume(d) marital responsibilities and duties, and “held themselves out” as husband and wife and others perceive(d) them to be married.

If she is declared by the court as Gary’s surviving spouse, she would ultimately be entitled to the late Diff’rent Strokes star’s estate.

“I know Shannon is the only one to have pure intentions. Shannon wants to make sure Gary’s bills are paid and there really isn’t any money in the estate,” Shielia Erickson, Shannon’s rep, told RadarOnline.com. “No one will get any money out of this since it’s not like there is a goldmine of money out there to get. All Shannon wants is Gary’s ashes.

“If people really respected Gary’s wishes and really cared about him, they would do what Gary wanted and that is to take care of Shannon and not make her like hard. Stop hurting Shannon.” Erickson claims Price still cannot return to the house she shared with Gary to retrieve her belongings.

But the fight for the estate may not end with the Colemans and Shannon Price. Radaronline.com spoke with Victor Perillo, the Colemans’ rep who told RadarOnline.com: “Anna Gray is also filing so probably all the attorney’s are getting together to stop it. The lawyers are working together and the Coleman’s filing was just a precautionary measure. The last time I talked to Jackman, he said no decision had been made of who would get Gary’s estate. We all think it’s going to be Anna Gray. The Colemans filed in case Anna doesn’t get the estate, then they will; not Shannon. I know that they all think what Shannon is doing is totally unfair.”

A memorial was held Monday afternoon at Il Cielo restaurant in Beverly Hills for Diff’rent Strokes star Gary Coleman where friends gathered to remember him as a kind, generous man with a giant spirit.

RadarOnline.com was there and has exclusive photos, video and details of the bittersweet event attended by approximately 25 people.

Todd Bridges was at the lunchtime event along with Gary’s former agent Robert Malcolm, the executor of his estate Anna Gray, his lawyer Randy Kester, former manager Dion Mial and several producers who worked with Gary and friends whose lives were profoundly touched by the star who died at age 42 on May 28.

Noticeably absent and not invited was Gary’s ex-wife Shannon Price, who posed for photos with the actor in the hospital on his deathbed while he was on life support and later profited from the sale of those pictures.

“Her actions both after the accident and in the days following; taking him off life support so quickly, selling his trains, taking photos when he died,” former business partner Barry Greenberg told RadarOnline.com’s Amber Goodhand of his take on Price.

“I think those were all very strange actions.”

When one person at the event called Gary a “little guy,” Gray spoke up and said, “No, he’s the biggest man in the world.”

That sentiment ran throughout the afternoon.

“This is a special day where the people who helped him or were his friends, can gather and discuss the good times in his life,” Malcolm told RadarOnline.com.

The event started at approximately noon PT and lasted two hours. Guests feasted on calamari, eggplant, pesto pasta, salmon, chicken, mini sliders, chocolate covered strawberries, cream puffs and more.

A woman in attendance said her name was Tree Windsong and she was blind. She said she met Gary when she called into a Tucson, Arizona radio show that was running a “win a date with Gary Coleman” show. Windsong won and went out with Gary, leading to a friendship that lasted years.

One friend of Gary’s talked about his fear of grass because of the germs he believed it harbored and recalled carrying him across her lawn so he could attend her birthday party.

At one point in his life Gary worked as a security guard. A producer who encountered him during this time pitched a project to Gary that would involve Emmanuel Lewis. The two diminutive stars met but things quickly turned contentious.

Gary one-upped his fellow celebrity by saying something he rarely got to utter: “I’m a foot taller than you!”

The story drew laughs throughout the room.

“I can’t say that I was shocked,” Greenberg said of Gary’s death. “I know that he had all kinds of problems in life, all kinds of trouble, both medically and personally and it’s just very sad.”

Gray was still visibly grieving after the memorial telling RadarOnline.com, “I’m not ready to comment, guys. Thank you for the interest.”

More laughs were had when Gary’s former attorney, Randy Kester told RadarOnline.com one of his fondest memories of the actor.

“He had his pants tucked into his boots and I said, ‘Why do you have pants tucked into your boots?’ He said, ‘Well, don’t you think it makes me look taller?’”

EXCLUSIVE VIDEO INTERVIEW: Gary Coleman's Agent: He "Never Had The Time To Be A Child"

Posted on Jun 26, 2010 @ 12:50PM - 13 comments

Gary Coleman played a happy fun-loving ‘Arnold’ on TV's Diff’rent Strokes.

But according to his longtime agent, speaking out for the first time to RadarOnline.com, Coleman’s real life was far from the ideal Hollywood image.

Robert Malcolm revealed the tormented life that Coleman endured-- a life he described to RadarOnline.com as “sad and lonely.”

Malcolm met Coleman when the Diff’rent Strokes star was 24 — a time when the actor revealed his lost youth.

Malcolm told RadarOnline.com, “His room was full of toys, very little furniture... and I said to myself, ‘How sad, here is somebody who probably never had the time to be a child'."

The pint-sized actor sued his parents Sue and Willie Coleman in 1989 for allegedly stealing his multimillion-dollar fortune -- a claim they have long denied.

The parents were also accused of forcing their son to work under horrific health conditions.

“His kidney problem started when he was quite young, he was in pain, they would still make him work and they kept on promising that it would be the last year and the year ended and they started again,” said Malcolm.

“He supposedly made $18 million over the course of Diff’rent Strokes and when he finally sued his parents, he wound up with $1.3 million.

“So you wonder where did that money go? I don’t have the answer.”

Later in life, Coleman moved on and didn’t speak with his parents for the final 23 years of his life.

Said Malcolm, “In terms of his parents he spoke very little. There was not particularly anger but there was no love. You felt that he had been abandoned.”

Perhaps the most heartbreaking part of Coleman’s life was the multitude of ailments he faced.

“Beyond the fact that he had dialysis every other day, three times a week which is a very, very difficult thing to go through… he also had a heart problem, he had infection problems because of the posts they had to put in, there were very few places that they could do things to him to draw blood, he had a breathing problem.

“About four years ago he got very ill and had to be in an induced coma. He had bitten his tongue in his sleep and his tongue basically had enlarged and was outside his mouth. They induced a coma which he was in for a couple of months.”

Police do not believe the 42-year-old's death on May 28 was suspicious.

His body was discovered by his ex-wife Price, 25, who later gave permission to turn off his life support machine.

EXCLUSIVE VIDEO INTERVIEW: Gary Coleman Forced To Pick Between Two Women Now Fighting For His Estate

Posted on Jun 24, 2010 @ 10:45AM - 8 comments

Diff’rent Strokes star Gary Coleman was forced to choose between his ex-girlfriend and Shannon Price, RadarOnline.com has learned.

Randy Kester, the star’s long-time attorney, told RadarOnline.com the actor faced the dilemma after the two women collided.

EXCLUSIVE VIDEO INTERVIEW: Ex-Wife Told Gary Coleman What To Write In His Controversial Will, Says Star's Former Lawyer

“Anna’s a lady who worked with Gary for about eight years from about ’97 or 98 to about 2005 or 2006,” he said.

“She actually worked with him as his manager. I think, quite frankly, she became a confidante of Gary’s. He would tell her things that he didn’t share with a lot of other people.

The couple became more than just friends, but when Coleman met Price things changed drastically.

Said Kester, “My understanding from my discussion with Anna is that she and Gary had a romantic relationship -- that they were very close to one another, close enough that they lived together for those 2 or 3 months until it fell apart.”

EXCLUSIVE: From Actor To Fashionista -- Gary Coleman Planned A Kids Clothing Line

“Shannon came on the picture and that just didn’t mix well and Anna didn’t want any part of it,” he added.

“She indicated to me she felt uncomfortable making Gary uncomfortable because Shannon was making Gary make a choice, make a decision and Anna just respectfully said "I don’t want to do this to you, Gary. I’ll always be your friend, but I’m going to move on.’"

EXCLUSIVE DOCUMENTS: Gary Coleman Secretly Took Out Restraining Order Against Ex-Wife Months Before Death

Gray was named executor of a will signed in 2005 ‹ a will that Kester thinks will be determined as Coleman’s valid will.

Price has a handwritten codicil from 2007.

Coleman had told Gray that he put her in his will, but she had never seen it until he died.

“Anna was surprised when she found out that Gary had named her as the executor and as a partial beneficiary in that will,” Kester said.

“When she first found out about it she was emotionally overwhelmed. I think it struck her right in her heart and she had a hard time reacting to it.

“I really truly believe that the 2005 will that Gary signed appointing Anna as the executor and a partial beneficiary giving his railroads to other people, I think that will is going to prevail.

“I think Shannon is going to have a really hard time of proving her case of common law marriage.”

Although the couple divorced in 2008, Coleman and Price were living together and they were planning to re-marry.

EXCLUSIVE VIDEO INTERVIEW: Shannon Price Abusive Toward Gary Coleman, Called Him Stupid, Says His Attorney

Posted on Jun 23, 2010 @ 02:06PM - 58 comments

Gary Coleman’s ex-wife Shannon Price was often abusive toward him, called the actor ‘stupid’ and made comments about his height.

Those disturbing revelations come from Coleman’s lawyer Randy Kester, who revealed new details about Price in an exclusive video interview with RadarOnline.com.

He also revealed the couple did not sleep together and had separate bedrooms in their Santaquin, Utah, home, at the end of Coleman’s life.

“Shannon would demean him and say very personal things about him in public... she would frequently call him stupid,” Kester told RadarOnline.com.

“I thought it was an inappropriate relationship... Shannon’s treatment of Gary was harsh and it was domineering.

“It always bothered me.”

Kester added, “If Gary would respond in the wrong way, if he would disagree then there was this barrage of why he was wrong and why he shouldn’t be saying it that way... and even comments about his stature.”

Price has become a controversial figure since Coleman’s death.

The 24-year-old posed for photos with him on his deathbed and then profited from their sale. She also sold interviews about him within 24 hours of his death.

Price made the decision to take Coleman off life support, even though he had signed a document saying he wanted his life prolonged.

Now Kester has revealed some of the inner-most details from inside their tumultuous relationship, suggesting the union was unhealthy.

PHOTOS: Celebs Who Died Young

Kester told RadarOnline.com that Coleman’s relationship with Price “just didn’t seem to be a loving relationship. It was more dominant, subdued type of relationship.”

“They weren’t reluctant to talk loudly and harshly in public.”

Coleman and Price were secretly divorced but living together when he died, age 42.

She is trying to get a share of his estate with a hand-written codicil to his will.

PHOTOS: Stars’ Most Embarrassing Moments

Kester recalled one incident after a court hearing, when he saw “her (Shannon) literally dragging him to the car as if he was a little child.

“That just always stuck out in my mind as indicative of what the relationship was.”

Kester summed it up: “Everyone has their own subjective sense of what a loving relationship is I just don’t think what they had fit into the norm. It was extraordinary—it was off the wall almost.”

Gary Coleman's Beloved Train Collection Sold; Former Agent Accuses Ex-Wife

Posted on Jun 23, 2010 @ 12:08PM - 30 comments
DNP Random Things

Gary Coleman's beloved train collection is being sold off -- even though a court has frozen the Diff'rent Strokes star's affairs.

A Utah man has revealed he spent $11,000 on some of the late actor's collection in the days after his death, on May 28.

And Coleman's agent, Robert Malcolm, has accused Coleman's ex-wife Shannon Price of being behind the sale.

PHOTOS: Celebs We Lost In 2010

Robert Malcolm told RadarOnline.com: “People have told me that she (Shannon Price) is already selling Gary’s personal items."

EXCLUSIVE: Gary Coleman's Ex-Wife Will Not Visit Body -- One Last Time

But Austin, who rang into a Utah radio station, insisted he did not deal with Price.

"I dealt with a neighbor... I guess one of Gary’s really good friends," he said, adding to the intrigue.

PHOTOS: Celebs Involved In Murder

"After Gary passed he just sold everything which I thought was weird.

“I gave him (neighbor) the money, I never saw Shannon, I never dealt with Shannon and I never met Shannon."

The train heist follows reports Price profited from the sale of a shocking deathbed photo of Coleman during his last hours - an image that sparked outrage throughout the world.

She also reportedly entered the home the couple shared in Santaquin, Utah, and took some of Coleman’s belongings.

PHOTOS: Gary Coleman Through The Years

But when quizzed about whether she was behind the sale of the train collection, Price's agent told us: “Nothing at all has been sold. It’s a total rumor."

The Diff’rent Strokes star had a passion for locomotives; his entire basement was filled with model trains and his cabinets were sorted by train parts.

RadarOnline.com first reported that one of the executor’s of Coleman's will is the owner of Allied Model Trains, Nick Barone.

And in a will presented by Gary’s ex-manager and ex-girlfriend Anna Gray, his train collection is to be bequeathed to several model train stores including: Allied Model Trains, The Original Whistle Stop, The Train Shack and Model Railroad Emporium.

Malcolm also told RadarOnline.com: “In his will, he stipulated his train collection should go to certain people -- and this would be hurtful to Gary.”

Price, who claims she was Coleman's common law wife, has a  handwritten codicil dated September 4, 2007 that leaves his entire estate to her.

But Gary’s ex-girlfriend and business manager, Anna Gray, presented her own 2005 will that leaves her as the sole beneficiary.

A judge is yet to decide which will is valid.

EXCLUSIVE: Gary Coleman's Ex Wife: I Wanted To Be There When He Was Cremated

Price's attorney Todd Bradford said if any of the late actor's possessions had been sold during this state of flux, it would be a matter for the court-appointed special administrator.

"If (Rob Jeffs) feels that some asset or assets have been disposed of, sold or destroyed, he would have the responsibility to locate that item or items and get them back," said Bradford.

"Or if they’ve been sold, get the proceeds from the sale and hold on to them.”

But Bradford added he also didn't know anything about the alleged sale.
