Federal prosecutors made one of magician David Copperfield’s problems disappear when they closed their two-year investigation on him without filing charges.
David Copperfield Accused of Sexual Assault
He was accused of sexually assaulting a former Miss Washington USA contestant he had met after one of his shows. Copperfield invited her to visit his private island in the Bahamas in July 2007. She alleged that he sexually assaulted her when she arrived.
According to the Associated Press, a brief court document was filed Tuesday by U.S. Attorney Susan Roe.
Copperfield’s attorney had previously called the woman’s claim “extortion for money, plain and simple.”

Magician David Copperfield is the victim of "extortion for money, plain and simple," his attorneys said Wednesday in response to a lawsuit filed in Seattle against the entertainer that accuses him of sexually assaulting and threatening a former Miss Washington USA contestant on his private island two years ago.
Copperfield's accuser "has a history of lying... which continues in this lawsuit,” according to his attorneys, Angelo Calfo and Patty Eakes.
