Darlene Egelhoff, reality TV star Heidi Montag’s mother, had a terrifying mountain bike accident while on vacation in Utah.

Egelhoff – who remains estranged from her famous daughter – was biking off-road with husband Tim Egelhoff when she lost control and plunged down a steep rock face.

Later, she twittered: “Near death experience on super steep slick rock in Moab! Rolled a couple times, stopped on the edge of a cliff! Scrapes& bruises PRAISE GOD!”

Her husband told RadarOnline: “Darlene is good she is going to be fine – we just got involved in a scary adventure in the back country of Utah. You have to be safe out here because it can get pretty steep on the trails.

Darlene Egelhoff, who was seen with Heidi in several episodes of the now-canceled reality series, The Hills, documents her life on her self help blog Metamorphosis Of A Mother, in which she is often very candid.

In an entry on January 29, 2011, she shockingly wrote about one night that she “thought might be my last” due to an adverse reaction to sleeping pills while she was drinking alcohol.

Darlene and Heidi haven't spoken in over a year. The relationship took a turn for the worst after an episode of The Hills in which Egelhoff told her daughter she didn't "look good" after undergoing ten plastic surgeries in one day.

Heart palpitations, which she admits to suffering from since childhood, but not at an alarming rate, increasingly got worse leading her to become depressed, she claims.

Egelhoff and Montag haven't spoken in nearly nine months since they shot an episode of The Hills during which Egelhoff said her daughter didn't "look good" after undergoing ten plastic surgery procedures in one day.

But in RadarOnline.com's world exclusive, Egelhoff reveals in the candid letter that she also has body issues and battled an eating disorder. She tells 24-year-old Heidi that she won't "find herself" or "purpose in the superficial".

Heidi Montag's estranged mother Darlene Egelhoff has blasted her daughter in a new post on her self-titled blog, telling her: “It's time you showed a little respect!”

Egelhoff wrote she'd "decided to leave Heidi out of my blog because I had heard second hand she was accusing me of 'using her.'" But mom says she believes her blog posts actually are benefiting Heidi “and if anything helping her image.”

Last month, Heidi’s husband Spencer Pratt labeled Egelhoff a “hypocrite” who was just interested in trying to piggyback off her daughter's fame.

In her response, Egelhoff tore into her daughter over their year-long estrangement.

Looks like Heidi Montag’s mom Darlene Egelhoff could soon be asking her famous daughter for another loan - after she announced on her blog that a Colorado Sheriff issued her a summons for $100,000 in unpaid bills, RadarOnline.com can reveal.

Darlene’s restaurant recently went-under and now her hard-up family is being hit with the huge tab to pay for a breach of contract with their former landlords.

But despite the financial blow, Darlene seems to be taking a practical view of her situation.

Heidi Montag told ABC News she was addicted to plastic surgery after undergoing ten surgeries in a day this past January, and places the blame for the physical and emotional pain she suffered as result on the surgeon who performed the operations, the late Dr. Frank Ryan.
