The trial of John Edwards sank to new lows Friday morning with the bombshell testimony of Bryan Huffman, who claims that his 101-year-old friend, Rachel ‘Bunny’ Mellon, unknowingly provided the ‘hush money’ used by the Senator to cover up his affair with his pregnant mistress Rielle Hunter.

The 101-year-old charity supporter met the Democratic presidential contender in 2005 at her Virginia home, and was so impressed with him that she immediately lent him her personal plane.

Rod Blagojevich was found guilty on 17 counts of corruption on Monday in a Chicago courtroom and said he was “stunned,” by the verdict.

After being convicted on 17 of the 20 counts against him, Blagojevich addressed reporters outside the courtroom, telling them: “I frankly am stunned.  There’s not much left to say, other than we want to get home to our little girls and talk to them and explain things to them and then try to sort things out.  I’m sure we’ll be seeing you guys again.”

The former Illinois Governor turned reality TV star showed no emotion as the jury returned the guilty verdict inside the courtroom.  After the verdicts were read he sat back in his chair and said “I love you” to his wife Patti, who cried as the verdicts were read and shook her head “no” as the jurors left the courtroom.

Disgraced former Illinois governor (and yes, Celebrity Apprentice contestant) Rod Blagojevich asked a judge on Wednesday to cancel his retrial and instead sentence him as soon as possible on the one conviction from his first trial, RadarOnline.com has learned.

In explaining his decision, Blagojevich -- who was impeached from office after being charged with corruption -- said that money troubles prevent him from mounting a proper defense in a second trial.

In a five-page motion filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago, Blagojevich does not admit guilt, including on the conviction of lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. (That is the lone count jurors agreed on at his otherwise deadlocked trial last year.)

Federal prosecutors in the Rod Blagojevich corruption case asked a judge at an evidentiary hearing on Wednesday to throw out three of the 23 counts against the former governor in an attempt to “streamline the case,” RadarOnline.com has learned.

Prosecutors told U.S. District Judge James Zagel the accusations contained in the charges are duplicated in other counts and have requested dismissal of counts one, two and four in the original indictment — racketeering, racketeering conspiracy and wire fraud.
