Although it hasn’t quite reached the fever pitch of Twilight proportions, excitement is building steadily for the release of Kristen Stewart’s upcoming flick, The Runaways.

Stewart gets to show off her acting chops in the bio pic, which documents the rise to fame and short four-year music charts rule of the American all-girl band, fronted by rock legend Joan Jett.

Stewart isn’t the only Twilight star that gets to rock out, she’s joined by veteran vampire Dakota Fanning, who plays band member Cherie Currie alongside Stewart’s Jett.
Fanning shows that she’s all grown-up, marching straight into sex, drugs and rock ‘n roll – and even sharing a steamy same-sex smooch with Stewart!

The Runaways premiered at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival and met with mixed reviews. However, esteemed trade publication The Hollywood Reporter raved, "The Runaways bursts with energy, youth, excess, female empowerment, sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll.”

Dakota Fanning boogied down in her authentic 70's garb Monday on the set of The Runaways in Los Angeles.
The 15-year-old beauty, after this shot was snapped, was shielded by the film's crew members to avoid a throng of paparazzi waiting to take more pictures.
In the Joan Jett biopic, named after the 70's band, slender Fanning plays lead singer Cherie Currie.

Kristen Stewart is now several weeks into shooting The Runaways, the coming-of-age biopic about the 1970s all-girl teen band that launched the careers of Joan Jett and Cherie Currie.
Taking a break between her Twilight assignments, Kristen has become a dead ringer for Joan and seems to become more so with every day they spend together. Dakota Fanning costars are Cherie. The movie will hit theaters next spring.

In the new movie, The Runaways, Dakota Fanning plays the great Cherie Currie, lead vocalist for the iconic ‘70s rock band of the same name. So it’s only fitting that the actress and the legend are getting to hang out together during production. Hopefully Dakota has also been out to visit Cherie at her amazing chainsaw art studio. Yes – chainsaw art. Cherie has gone from being a rocker chick to a chainsaw chick.
The Runaways also stars Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett, the all girl band’s founding singer/guitarist.

New teen BFFs Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning took a break between shooting The Twilight Saga: New Moon and their next endeavor, The Runaways to hit up L.A.'s legendary hotspot The Roxy on Sunset on June 9.

Kristen, 19, will be playing legendary rocker chick Joan Jett in The Runaways with Dakota, 15, as one of her bandmates Cherie Currie.
The girls arrived at the Roxy in Kristen’s car to a swarm of waiting paparazzi, causing Dakota to duck from the blinding flashes.
A Roxy Spokesperson tells RadarOnline.com that Fanning and Stewart, 19, came out to see the headlining performer, Patrick Wolf an electro-pop Brit singer.
"They were a little bombarded with cameras in the audience so we worked it out for them to watch from a backstage area," Heather Kohos tells RadarOnline.com exclusively.
The Roxy is open to all ages, however the hotspot has a full bar, requiring underage clubbers to buy a food and beverage ticket to get in.
"They weren't drinking," Kohos pointed out. "They were just here to see the show."
Fanning's Druggie Deal

Dakota Fanning is in talks to star as real-life singer Cherie Currie in The Runaways, about the 1970s girl band. If she comes aboard, she'll join Kristen Stewart who is playing Joan Jett.
Eerily, Fanning is the same age -- 15 -- as Currie when she started rocking, doing drugs and super-partying. Her best known tune is "Cherry Bomb."
Today, the 50 year-old Currie is a respected chainsaw artist living in Chatsworth, California.
Floria Sigismondi wrote and directs the flick which shoots in May.
