Joran Van Der Sloot Pleads Guilty To Murdering Stephany Flores

Posted on Jan 11, 2012 @ 08:00AM - 17 comments

By Neil Woulfe - Radar Senior News Director

Notorious Dutchman Joran van der Sloot pleaded guilty Wednesday to the 2010 murder of a 21-year-old Stephany Flores, a  business student he met at a casino in Lima, Peru.

"Yes, I want to plead guilty. I wanted from the first moment to confess sincerely," he told the court. "I truly am sorry for this act. I feel very bad."

After his brief statement, Van der Sloot's lawyer argued that his client killed Flores as a result of "extreme psychological trauma" he suffered from the intense scrutiny thrust upon him after the 2005 disappearance of an Alabama teenager on the Caribbean island of Aruba.

By Radar Staff

Alisa Dmitrijeva, a 17-year-old who has been missing since August 2011, has been identified as the murder victim found at Queen Elizabeth's estate.

"We are devastated by the news of Alisa's death," her family said in a statement.  "We wish to grieve in private and don't want to speak with anyone from the press at this time."

The murder mystery began January 1 when a dog walker found the girl's remains in an area of the 20,000 acre Sandringham estate open to the public.

Alisa arrived in the U.K. from Latvia two years ago, and lived with her father, younger sister and grandmother. Her mother lives nearby.

Alisa was last seen getting into a Lexus with two male friends after midnight on Aug. 31. Her grandmother reported her missing about six days later, Detective Chief Inspector Jes Fry said on Sunday.

"We are still trying to establish any activity which took place on or around the site during the time frame of the end of August to the end of September 2011," Fry said. "We would like to identify people who may have worked in that area or were involved in organizing or running any specific events that may have taken place."

Amanda Knox And Boyfriend James Terrano Out In Seattle

Posted on Dec 18, 2011 @ 08:00AM - 14 comments

By Radar Staff

Amanda Knox is looking more relaxed than ever, back home in Seattle with her new boyfriend James Terrano.

In legal paperwork published on Thursday, the Italian judge who announced that Knox was victorious in her appeal of her murder conviction, explained the decision.

"Even taken all together," the judge wrote, the prosecution's evidence does not "prove in any way the guilt of Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito for the crime of" killing British student Meredith Kercher.

Prosecutors are still planning to appeal the reversal, but the likelihood of them ever getting her back into prison is definitely not in their favor.

On Friday, she and Terrano did some holiday shopping, had lunch at a Chinese restaurant, and even posed for pictures with fans.

Amanda is now back in school and working on a book about her ordeal.

Amanda Knox Prosecutors Demand Life Sentence!

Posted on Sep 25, 2011 @ 08:28AM - 22 comments

By Radar Staff

Prosecutors in the Amanda Knox murder conviction appeal trial on Saturday made the surprise argument that the Seattle woman's sentence should be extended to life behind bars!

Knox, her then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito and another man were convicted for the brutal 2007 murder of Amanda's fellow exchange student in Italy, Meredith Kercher from England. The two women shared a house. Knox and Sollecito were tried together and convicted in 2009. Their sentences were 26 and 25 years, respectively.

Their appeal -- basically a whole new trial under Italian law -- has been going on since June and wrapped up yesterday with passionate statements from both sides.

With the DNA evidence used to convict the pair now roundly criticized as unreliable, Knox, her family and defense team are growing confident the conviction will be overturned, and she'll be set free.

The prosecution isn't ready to give up.

During his closing remarks Saturday, Giancarlo Costagliola argued that the sentences for both Knox and Sollecito should be essentially doubled to life!

The reasoning?  The fact that they could show no motive for the homicide must mean it was a senseless killing that should warrant an even harsher sentence.

The panel of judges hearing the appeal are expected to give their decision by the first week of October.

Authorities in Aruba issued an unusual public plea Friday night. They've literally begged the public to come forward with any and all information they have about Gary Giordano.

Officials won a court battle Friday allowing them to keep Giordano in their custody for another 60 days as they continue to investigate the disappearance of his traveling companion, Robyn Gardner.

Giordano denies any wrongdoing in the Maryland woman's disappearance and claims she was swept out to sea while snorkeling. He's not been charged but local authorities have expressed serious doubts about his version of events, especially after it was discovered he took out a life insurance policy on Gardner just five days before she went missing.

As RadarOnline.com has reported, his attorney Michael Lopez is going to court on Monday to challenge his client's continued detainment.

The case is fascinating the public as well as legal experts

"It's just purely circumstantial evidence at this time," noted defense attorney Rob Black, who is not involved with the case, told the CBS Early Show Saturday morning.

"There obviously are some interesting facts leading up to the disappearance of this young woman. But the problem is, without a body, it is very hard to make a case like this, because how do you prove it's not accidental? So, while he has acted very strangely and there are some unusual circumstances, this is certainly not a slam-dunk case."

By Radar Staff

Despite his cerebral palsy, little Jori Lirette was not an overwhelming challenge to care for, his devastated mom Jesslyn Lirette says.

The seven-year-old was found decapitated and dismembered, allegedly at the hands of his father Jeremiah Wright, who police say has confessed to the crime and who was yesterday charged with first degree murder.

"Jori had a good life. He was never any trouble. He was very happy and very loved," his mother told the Tri-Parish Times.

"He would get down and roll around on the floor and have fun," Jesslyn added. "He was not confined to a wheelchair. He could move the wheels to get himself anywhere he wanted to be. The wheelchair made him free."

PHOTOS: Stars Who Died In Bizarre Ways

As RadarOnline.com previously reported, Wright is said to have told cops he was "tired of caring for Jori," who also needed a feeding tube.

The brutal crime -- Jori's head was left along the side of a road for all to see -- has shocked and horrified his Louisiana neighborhood.

Jeremiah Wright faces life in prison or the death penalty if convicted of the crime.

Anthony, 25, will be released from the Orange County Jail sometime after midnight. Barriers have already been put in place around the facility to keep the public away.

The Orange County Sheriff has arranged for three embedded reporters and photographers to capture in words and pictures what goes down at the moment Casey is released.

Sheriff's deputies will escort her to a pre-arranged location, where her own security team will take over protecting her.

Only then will the jail officially announce that she's a free woman, and the embedded journalists will be allowed to release their information and pictures.

In a shocking verdict, Casey was found not guilty of murdering her two-year-old daughter Caylee.  She was convicted but is appealing four counts of lying to law enforcement. She is also facing several civil lawsuits.

Where will Anthony go? As RadarOnline.com has reported, she is estranged from her parents Cindy and George Anthony.

And Baez has shot down rumors that she was headed to his native Puerto Rico.

"I'm her lawyer.  I'm not a relative," Baez said.  "I'm assisting to a certain extent. There is not much beyond that I can do."

The Orange County Sheriff has also made it clear that his responsibility for Casey will end once his officers have delivered her a "safe distance" from the jail.
