Jurors who were expecting to hear testimony from both John Edwards’ daughter and his former mistress this week were told on Wednesday that the defense has abruptly rested its case.

After three weeks of explosive testimony from the prosecution, the defense attorneys in Edwards' campaign finance trial opened on Monday but then informed the federal judge in the Greensboro, North Carolina courtroom that after just two days they would not be calling Cate Edwards or Rielle Hunter to the stand.

Cate Edwards is standing by her disgraced father John Edwards’ side during his trial for campaign violations, but the testimony on Wednesday was so painful for her to hear that she left the courtroom crying and wiping away her tears.

The 30-year-old was overcome with emotion after a former aide to her father spoke about a fight between John and Cate’s mother, Elizabeth Edwards, who passed away in December 2010 after a six year battle with breast cancer.

Just one year after his wife Elizabeth Edwards passed away following a difficult battle with cancer, John Edwards has asked his mistress Rielle Hunter to move into his home The National Enquirer has exclusively reported.

“Rielle is considering the move,” a source close to Hunter, 47, revealed. Edwards lives with his children Emma Claire, 13, and Jack, 11 -- his older daughter Cate, 29, who married over the summer lives nearby.

Cate Edwards, the daughter of disgraced former Sen. John Edwards and the late Elizabeth Edwards, was married in North Carolina on Saturday.

Cate, 29, wed Dr. Trevor Upham, 30, at the United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill, and then celebrated at a reception hosted by her father at the family's estate.

Cate's sister Emma Claire, 13,  was her maid of honor and her brother Jack,11, was a groomsman.

One of her mother's favorite poems by Maya Angelou was read during the service. At the reception, a trio played during cocktails and a rock band took over after dinner and got everybody on their feet dancing.

"We want this to be really happy and joyous and that's what my mother would want," Cate told People.

Cate's parents were in the process of divorcing when Elizabeth, lost her long battle with cancer last December, just two weeks after Trevor popped the question.

“I feel so lucky to have shared that joy with her, to have had the time to leaf through bridal magazines together and talk about the wedding,” Cate wrote in an article for the November issue of Glamour magazine.

As RadarOnline.com previously reported, Cate has said that her mother is never far from her thoughts.

“That willingness to give of herself is why mom feels so alive to me today. I think about her constantly. I hear her voice in every choice I make, big and small," revealed the new bride.

Cate stood by her father's side in another more somber occasion earlier this year when he appeared in court facing six felony charges that he illegally used campaign contributions during his failed Presidential campaign to cover-up his affair with Rielle Hunter, reported Radar, with whom he fathered a child.

With his trial set for January, Edwards is scheduled to be in court on Wednesday in an attempt to get the case thrown out.

Cate Edwards is tying the knot with her long term boyfriend this weekend, but without her beloved mother by her side.

The pretty brunette daughter of John and the late Elizabeth Edwards, who passed away on December 7, 2010, after a six-year battle with breast cancer, is marrying Dr. Trevor Upham at the North Carolina home her parents built, and she spoke lovingly of her mother and the wedding plans they made together.

“In the year since I said goodbye to my remarkable mom, so many things have changed,” Cate said in a heartfelt article she wrote for Glamour magazine.

“Many of those changes—like my upcoming wedding—were rooted in the days when she was still wonderfully, mischievously alive. On the Friday after Thanksgiving 2010, just before we learned that Mom’s cancer had spread to her liver, my boyfriend, Trevor Upham, surprised me by flying in to visit my family in North Carolina.

Cate Edwards' upcoming wedding day is gearing up to be a bittersweet time.

The daughter of former presidential candidate, John Edwards, is getting ready to walk down the aisle with fiancé Trevor Upham and although it will, without a doubt, be one of the happiest days of her life, one person will be sadly missing from the celebrations -- Cate's mom Elizabeth.

Elizabeth, died in December 2010, age 61, after a long battle with cancer, but although she is gone she is not forgotten.

"We got engaged shortly before she passed away, and we got a chance to really talk about what the wedding would be like," Cate, 29, told NBC news.

"[My mom] was so happy because she loves my fiancé and knew that I was on this path that she was happy with and comfortable with. We talked a lot about the wedding and little details, and I'll obviously be thinking about her a lot that day."

Cate has created the Elizabeth Edwards Foundation, in honor of her mom. The organization will support high school students who have limited resources but "great potential."

"Her outlook was 'Nothing is impossible,' " Cate said. "She never gave up hope even in her last week of life; she never gave up hope that a cure could be out there and that she could beat this.

"Big choices that I make … little choices that I make, sort of everything I do, I hear her voice, the same way I did when she was alive."

RadarOnline.com has obtained the just-released mug shot of disgraced politician John Edwards, who was booked on corruption charges in North Carolina on June 4.

Edwards, 58, is smiling broadly in the picture, after he plead not guilty to six felony charges on charges he illegally used campaign contributions during his run for president to cover-up his affair with Rielle Hunter.

After pleading not guilty to six felony charges John Edwards was directed by the court to submit to a urine test RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned.

The former senator was released on his own recognizance without having to post bail on Friday, but according to the conditions of release document obtained by RadarOnline.com he had to take a urine test.

The documents state that Edwards must "submit to urinalysis at time of release and if positive, submit to further urinalysis testing," before he was released. The Department of Justice spokesperson said that they do not believe the results of the urine test will be made public.

John Edwards appeared in a Federal Court in North Carolina on Friday, and pleaded not guilty to six felony charges including conspiracy, false statements and campaign law violations.

The two-time U.S. presidential candidate and former North Carolina senator gave a brief statement outside of the court saying: “There’s no question that I’ve done wrong and I take full responsibility for having done wrong. And I will regret for the rest of my life the pain and the harm that I have caused to others but I did not break the law and I have never, ever thought I was breaking the law.”

There was no bail set and the judge released Edwards on his own recognizance.  He must surrender his passport and is restricted to travel in the 48 contiguous states.
