Celebs went barking mad for their four legged friends as they gathered for the first ever American Hero Dog Awards and RadarOnline.com has the photos.

Dog- loving actresses Julianne Hough and Betty White, hunky Jason Lewis and Dancing with the Stars contestant Carson Kressly paid tribute to America's top dogs at the Beverly Hills gala organized by the American Humane Association. Cesar Canine Cuisine sponsored the event and the dog that stars in all its TV commercials hit the red carpet along with all the human celebs.

The eight furry finalists in the competition had been whittled down from 453 canine contestants.

The impressive pups included a seeing eye dog who guided her owner down 1,463 stairs in the World Trade Center after the 9/11 attacks, a Dutch shepherd who served in the army for 11 years and a therapy dog who surfs with special needs children.

The winner will be broadcast on November 11th on the Hallmark Channel.

The Dancing With the Stars contestants barely had time to get their dancing shoes off after Tuesday night’s results show before they were back online and tweeting about their experiences.

While the first star to be booted, Metta World Peace -- formerly known as Ron Artest -- kept quiet, the remaining cast members were gushing with excitement and support for their reality competition rivals.

"THANK YOU! We made it!! Because of you! And my lucky charm," wrote CNN host Nancy Grace, referring to her sexy Irish partner, Tristan MacMillan.
