Whitney Has Her Comeback! All The Top Moments of the American Music Awards

The American Music Awards may have offered a strong parade of today’s stars and yesterday’s legends but the line up dished out a smorgasbord of lackluster performances. Still, there was a cameo or two of show stopping brilliance, not to mention some boy-on-boy action and a very memorable butt moment.

Thankfully, Janet Jackson’s self-serving and half-hearted show opener didn’t set the bar for what to expect. Dressed in head-to-toe boring brown, she seemed tired and her voice could barely keep up as she (sort of) strutted the stage.

Moving on to the more successful, it was an American Idol fest with Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, and Adam Lambert all singing their hearts out. While Lambert won the controversy crown (he kissed a boy and had a stripper pole…and that wasn’t the end of it!) and Underwood showed off a new bob, Clarkson stole the show with her low-key but soulful performance of Already Gone. Sometimes less is more.
Jay-Z and Alicia Keys finally got the crowd into the show during Empire State of Mind” By the last refrain of "let’s hear it for New York, New York, New York” pretty much everyone was on their feet dancing along and mouthing the words. It was so good we could almost forgive them for getting introduced by Alex Rodriguez.

Lady Gaga and Rihanna- two of the nights most anticipated acts- had crazy outfits and lots of blinking lights and lasers but just didn’t “bring it.” Maybe it was their song choices but the ladies did not live up to the high expectations they have trained the audience to have.

Besides Jennifer Lopez’s fall on her very famous butt, the best part of the evening has to be Whitney Houston’s much-hyped performance. Looking glamorous and gorgeous, Houston delivered a moving performance- even pausing at the end of the song since she was overcome with emotion. With tears forming in her eyes, she ended on the appropriate lyrics "I got to know my own strength." Houston then thanked the crowd who then thanked her with a standing ovation.

American Idol pop sensation Carrie Underwood fluttered in a hot pink chiffon Jenny Packham jewel embellished minidress at the AI Season 8 finale recently, finishing off her look with Stuart Weitzman peep-toe pumps, John Hardy earrings and a Swarovski clutch for a stand-out flirty look.
Famous for her assets, Carmen Electra turned the same Jenny Packham number into a Playboy-gone-Barbie cleavage flaunting getup with bedazzled sandals in Sin City Thursday night.

Carrie Underwood, the 26-year-old blond beauty catapulted to success after winning American Idol four years ago, was honored with the Entertainer of the year award Sunday at the Academy of Country Music Awards.
Clad in an elegant white dress to accept the big prize, Underwood, who has racked up right No. 1 singles since launching her post-Idol solo career, was the first female talent to capture the honor since the Dixie Chicks in 2000. She said she accepted the award, in part, for all of the unrecognized women in country music who paved the way for her.
