Monica was first reported missing Tuesday by her husband, who alleged that she had left the resort to go shopping and never came back.

The couple had been seen arguing the previous night by a hotel security guard.

EXCLUSIVE: Neighbors In Disbelief That Survivor Producer Is Murder Suspect

Posted on Apr 09, 2010 @ 04:45PM - 8 comments
DNP Random Things

Neighbors who live across the street from former Survivor producer Bruce Beresford-Redmond and his murdered wife Monica, whose body was recently discovered in a sewer outside the Mexican resort where the couple was vacationing, don’t believe that the father of two could be a killer.

“They’ve lived across the street for probably more than five years. I see him [Bruce] probably almost every day,” said Steve Wheeler, a neighbor in the Rancho Palos Verdes community. “He’s walking his kids with the dogs. I mean, he’s a really nice guy. I’ve never ever seen him and Monica fighting. I’ve been at several parties at their house and I’ve never seen anything that would suggest that type of behavior

“He seems like a very good family man, she seemed like a very good wife,” he added. “They seemed to be very normal, very friendly and seemed very easygoing.”

The neighbors paint a picture of a doting family man, a description that is in direct conflict to reports in which a security guard at the Moon Palace resort in Cancun claims he saw the couple arguing and Beresford-Redmond tried to hit his wife.

Francisco Alor, the attorney general for Quintana Roo state where the hotel is located, confirmed in reports that Bruce had scratches on his arms and face and that resort guests heard an argument in the couple's room on Monday night.

Celebs Who Died Young

“They live right across the street. He’s a really nice guy. Very environmentally conscious. I’ve never seen anything even suggesting that something like this could happen. In fact, to be perfectly honest with you, I’ve never even heard them yell at each other,” said Steve, who along with his wife Lori has known the Beresford-Redmonds for more than five years.

He said he’s never seen signs of physical or verbal abuse.

“[Monica] used to come over to the house with her kids once in awhile and you know if there were some problems, I mean…you know, I’m kinda aware of things. I never saw any bruises on her, with her hair all pulled out or anything. I mean, I’ve never seen any signs that would suggest that something like this would happen.

“I mean, we live close enough so if there was yelling and screaming and door slamming and, you know, cars screeching out of the driveway we would hear that. I’ve never heard anything like that.”

The Beresford-Redmond family has two young children, who neighbors also say never showed indications of a volatile family life.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Survivor Producer's Mistress Was A Co-Worker, Says Dead Wife's Sister

“They have a girl Camilla and a little boy who’s absolutely adorable with this curly blonde hair. Their kids are absolutely adorable, Bruce is like the perfect dad, he has the double stroller, he takes the kids at the same time for a stroll with the dog, takes them all for a walk in the neighborhood,” said Lori, who described the couple as “fine” the last saw the them a week ago getting in the car with their kids. “You know, I have an eight year old son and he would go over there and play with them in the front yard. [Camilla’s] an adorable little girl running around jumping and dancing on the lawn. That’s why I’m telling you if they had this tumultuous relationship it would show in the kids and her kids are absolutely adorable and healthy and happy.”

Steve agreed.

“They seemed to be very good parents. Bruce seems to be a very good father. I usually see him out walking the dogs pushing the stroller with both his kids in it. That’s why it’s kind of so hard for me to believe. I usually see him in the morning walking the dogs or in the afternoon with the kids and his dogs.”

VIDEO: Survivor Producer Not Charged In Wife's Killing, But Ordered To Remain In Mexico

Beresford-Redmond was released from Mexican custody early Friday, but remains under investigation and must stay in the country.

The Wheelers remember Monica as “outgoing” and “fun.”

“Monica is from Brazil and she has a Brazilian accent, she’s very outgoing, fun, laughing,” said Lori. You know, she was not snotty, stuck up. You see them you wave, ‘Hi, what are you doing?’ Both of them were very nice people. Bruce is very nice, a very loving father, she’s a very loving mother. They were like the perfect neighbors.”

PHOTOS: Celebrity Cheaters

In fact, they have their own conclusions to what may have happened in Mexico.

“Mexico is a very dangerous place right now,” said Steve. “He’s a fairly well known producer for several series. I don’t know, maybe somebody tried to abduct her or something. If somebody tried to take her she’s big enough where she would fight. She’s definitely not submissive.”
