It has not been the best month for Brokeback Mountain star Randy Quaid. With one lawsuit already simmering in the courts, RadarOnline.com has learned that the actor is being probed by police regarding an alleged unpaid hotel bill.
Randy and Evi’s other legal woes
"Randy and Evi Quaid checked into the luxurious five star hotel the San Ysidro Ranch on June 13, 2009, the next day the Quaid's were notified by the hotel their credit card was declined. For several days the Quaid 's told hotel management that they were waiting for a new credit card to be sent to them in the meantime racking up several thousand dollars worth of charges,” a source told RadarOnline.com exclusively.
On June 20, hotel employees noticed the actor had left without paying the bill. It totaled more than $10,000. Efforts to collect the money for the past few months have been unsuccessful.
How Randy's life may be in danger
The actor and his wife Evi Quaid - who were at the center of a reported death threat scare - are being investigated by Santa Barbara police.
“We can confirm there is an on-going investigation underway,” a police spokesperson confirmed to RadarOnline.com but declined to offer any more specifics.
In an unrelated matter, private eye Becky Altringer is suing the couple for $19,000 in unpaid fees after she was hired to investigate death threats and insurance fraud against the Quaids. Altringer claims Evi asked her to harass members of the Broadway play Lone Star Love and that she witnessed the star's wife snort white powder. Evi claimed it was Demerol to treat migraine headaches.
Her husband was thrown out of the actors Equity Association in Febuary 2008 after he was accused by the Lone Star Love cast of verbally and physically assaulting them.
Reps for the hotel refused to comment and the couple’s lawyer did not immediately return requests.
EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Private Investigator Fears For Randy Quaid's Life, Believes Wife May Kill Him
Posted on Sep 04, 2009 @ 05:10PM - 7 comments
Private detective Becky Altringer got more than she bargained for when she accepted an assignment from Randy Quaid's wife Evi to investigate murder threats against them. The situation got so out of hand that Altringer filed a restraining order against Evi citing drug abuse and mental instability.
She opened up to RadarOnline.com about the ordeal, why she stayed with them, and why she thinks Randy's life is in danger.
Watch her shocking allegations and tearful admission by clicking on the video above
"I am very much afraid of Randy. I believe Evi is going to kill Randy and herself," she said. Altringer remembers when she was first hired. Evi believed that the mob or insurance carriers killed David Carradine and had then set their sights on the Quaids.
Randy and Evi "argued a lot" and "there was so much [Evi] hid from Randy," according to Altringer. Those secrets included drug abuse and money issues.

"Demerol use, the abuse of it, what I saw. [She hid] the fact that she owes a lot of people a lot of money," she added. "I would go to bed sick to my stomach."
When she asked Evi why she snorted the demerol for her migraines, Quaid's wife had a quick explanation: "[She said] her doctor told her if she took it in her left nostril it would go up to her brain."
Altringer attempted to inform Randy about his wife's behavior but was blocked from doing so.
"She wouldn't let me alone with Randy... I tried to get out as much as I could the day that I quit," she alleged.
Clearly still distraught over the situation, Altringer tried to hold back tears when explaining why she went through with the restraining order and why she stayed with the Quaids for as long as she did.
"I just want to be paid for my services and want Evi to leave me alone," she said. "[I stayed] because I cared about him [Randy] and maybe someway Evi would realize she needed help. I tried to convince her in every way that she did."
EXCLUSIVE: Private Investigator Files For Restraining Order Against Randy Quaid's Wife
Posted on Sep 01, 2009 @ 02:20PM - 4 comments

Actor Randy Quaid's wife Evi asked a top private detective to investigate death threats against them - but the investigator ended up filing a restraining order against Evi, RadarOnline.com has learned exclusively.

Beverly Hills-based investigator Becky Altringer claims Evi told her to harass cast members of a play her husband appeared in, and also says Evi is "mentally unstable" and using drugs.
In legal papers obtained by RadarOnline.com, Altringer says the Quaids hired her "to investigate possible insurance fraud and threat to their lives on June 5, 2009. I quit working for Evi and Randy Quaid on June 27, 2009."
According to the papers filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, Altringer claims Evi "demanded that I harass the individuals who were part of the Broadway Play, Lone Star Love because they signed a document making allegations against Randy Quaid."
After all 26 members of the Lone Star Love cast claimed Randy physically and verbally abused them, the Actors' Equity Association banned the "Brokeback Mountain" star -- brother of actor Dennis Quaid -- for life and fined him more than $81,000 in February 2008.
In her suit, Altringer says Evi owes her over $19,000 in expenses, and she also threatened "to send some thugs over to remove information from my computer and the personal belonging that she left at our residence."
Altringer also claims that on June 8, 2009, the Quaids were at her home and she saw Evi snorting a white substance.
"When I asked her about it, Evi informed me that it was Demerol and she took it for migraines," Altringer said in her suit.
In the court documents, Altringer said Evi became increasingly paranoid when the Quaids stayed with her from June 24 to June 26, 2008, at her home in La Verne, Calif.
Altringer wrote: "I observed Evi's paranoia increase and she was convinced someone was going to murder Randy and then Evi to make it look like murder/suicide. I was concerned because of the Demerol use and Evi was becoming mentally unstable."
Altringer, who runs Ariel Investigations, is waiting for the court's decision on whether to grant the restraining order.
